Former Blues midfielder John Obi Mikel has claimed that world-class striker Victor Osimhen wants to join Chelsea this summer.
Speaking on his latest podcast, Mikel passionately shared that Osimhen, who currently plays for Napoli and on loan to Galatasary, has a deep-rooted desire to play for the West London club.
According to Mikel, Osimhen grew up idolizing Chelsea legend Didier Drogba and dreams of following in his footsteps.
“Listen, it will be really sad if we don’t get a player who supported us as a kid and wants to play for this Football Club,” Mikel said.
“His idol is Drogba, he will want to break records, win us trophies, get us back to the top. I’m telling you that would be his mission.”
The former Chelsea midfielder also hinted that the door remains open for the striker’s arrival:
“If the club chose not to pursue it… then fair enough. But the good thing is we know where we left it. We can literally pick the phone up and get him straight in the door.”
The update comes at a time when Chelsea are visibly struggling in attack. Following a disappointing 0-0 draw against Brentford, manager Enzo Maresca voiced his frustrations, calling on his forwards to step up and start delivering goals.
The Italian’s decision to rotate heavily in such a crucial fixture has also raised eyebrows among fans.
With Champions League hopes hanging by a thread and attention turning towards the summer transfer window, signing a top-tier striker is expected to be Chelsea’s top priority.
Alongside Osimhen, the Blues have been linked with other young attacking talents like Benjamin Sesko and Liam Delap.
