Former Arsenal star Stewart Robson believes that if Chelsea are to qualify for the Champions League, they will have to remove Jorginho.

Jorginho joined Chelsea from Napoli during the summer on a transfer fee of £57 million. This reunited him with Maurizio Sarri. Having played under Maurizio Sarri at Napoli, Jorginho knows Sarri’s footballing style more than anyone in Chelsea’s squad. Jorginho has been a regular under Maurizio Sarri this season.

However, Chelsea’s recent dip has seen many criticise Sarri as well as Jorginho.

Robson believes that Jorginho is the reason why Chelsea aren’t winning much lately and believes Sarri should drop him now.

Robson said, Sarri is sticking with the same policy and he has still got a player in there that I think is the main reason why Chelsea aren’t winning enough games. As I said at the start of the season, he can’t run, which means he can’t defend spaces outside of the full-backs.

He can’t head the ball so he can’t get between his centre-backs and do a defensive job there. He can’t see a forward pass unless he has got lots of time on the ball so he can only pass backwards and square.

He can’t manipulate the ball and therefore wriggle out of situations, so he is a liability for Chelsea and all the time that he is in the side, Chelsea I don’t think will qualify for the Champions League.”

Chelsea are currently 6th in the Premier League, one point behind fourth-placed Manchester United. They resume their Premier League campaign on the 27th against Tottenham. Before that, Chelsea play three matches- the EFL Cup Final against Manchester City, an FA Cup match against Manchester United and the second leg of the Europa League round of 32 against Malmo.
