Jhon Duran eager to Join Chelsea after talks, Says Fabrizio Romano
In a significant development this transfer window, Jhon Duran has reportedly expressed his desire to move to Chelsea.
According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Aston Villa striker has given the green light for a transfer to Stamford Bridge after reaching a verbal agreement.
Duran, who joined Villa midway through the 2022/23 season, enjoyed a promising first full season in the Premier League.
Despite playing second fiddle to Ollie Watkins, the Colombian striker managed to score eight goals in 37 appearances, contributing significantly to Villa’s qualification for the Champions League for the first time in over four decades.
“Chelsea have to reach an agreement with the player and with the club. On the Jhon Duran case, they already have the green light of John Duran, but not yet the green light of Aston Villa.
“In that case, it has to be a swap deal so it is a complicated story, guys – it is not easy.” Romano revealed on his Playback channel.
He added that Chelsea still need to negotiate terms with Villa, hinting at the complexity of a potential swap deal involving players like Conor Gallagher.
The allure of Chelsea’s ambitious project under new ownership has caught Duran’s eye, even though he would face stiff competition from the likes of Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku.
The young striker’s potential move comes at a time when Chelsea are actively seeking new talents to bolster their squad after a period of heavy spending.
However, the move raises questions about Duran’s development. While Chelsea offers a lucrative wage structure, staying at Villa could provide him with more consistent playing time and a chance to play in the Champions League under Unai Emery, who has publicly praised Duran’s potential.
At just 20 years old, Duran’s decision will shape his future career. The choice between immediate financial gain and the opportunity for regular playtime and development at Villa Park presents a significant dilemma for the young striker.
