Fabrizio Romano gives an update on Kante's contract

N’Golo Kante expressed his desire to stay at Stamford Bridge beyond this summer.

The French midfielder arrived in the summer of 2016 from Leicester City and his contract will expire this summer.

Kante, a 2018 World Cup winner with France, suffered a hamstring injury earlier this season and returned to action back in April.

The Blues are having second thoughts on handing Kante a new contract who has had a worrying injury record recently.

He could leave as a free agent this summer and an unnamed Saudi Arabian club has tabled an offer for the 32-year-old midfielder.

But Kante himself has emphasised his desire to extend his Chelsea contract this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Kante’s extension talks with the Blues slowed down recently.

“N’Golo Kanté’s contract extension, not done yet — talks were very advanced in the last months but now the situation is unclear again. More contacts will take place,” he tweeted.

“Parties will talk in order to decide — there are more clubs keen on Kanté on a free, including Saudi.”
