Fabrizio Romano has announced: “Djordje Petrovic to Bournemouth, here we go!” The Serbian goalkeeper is set to complete a £25 million transfer to AFC Bournemouth, signing a long-term five-year contract, with Chelsea approving all terms, according to Romano and David Ornstein.
Petrovic, 25, enjoyed a standout season on loan at Strasbourg, where he earned their Player of the Season award and helped the Ligue 1 side qualify for the Europa Conference League.
Despite that success, he was omitted from Chelsea’s Club World Cup squad, signaling that the club no longer viewed him as part of their first-team plans.
Bournemouth, seeking a reliable presence between the posts after Kepa Arrizabalaga moved to Arsenal, outpaced interest from Sunderland, AS Monaco, and Aston Villa to land their man. He’s scheduled for a medical next week before finalizing his move to the south coast.
The deal honors a previously agreed gentlemen’s agreement allowing Petrovic to leave Chelsea should a £25 million bid arrive, demonstrating respect between the clubs.
It represents a £11 million profit for Chelsea, who acquired him for roughly £14 million in 2023.
For Petrović, the move offers a chance to establish himself as a first-choice Premier League goalkeeper, fulfilling his ambition after waiting patiently behind Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen.
With both clubs confirming the final conditions, it’s expected that Petrović will be part of Bournemouth’s 2025/26 squad, ready to anchor their goalkeeping department.
Meanwhile, Chelsea could further reshape its squad possibly sending teenager Mike Penders to Strasbourg on loan as part of a talent development strategy under their BlueCo network.
From a bright season in France to a pivotal new chapter in the Premier League, Djordje Petrovic’s journey continues, with Bournemouth now holding the keys to unlock his potential.
