Ben Chilwell gets lifeline as Chelsea boss considers him for selection

Chelsea are gearing up for another busy transfer window, and according to Fabrizio Romano, there is one deal we can definitely expect to see.

“Chelsea Will Sign a Midfielder” – Fabrizio Romano Drops Summer Transfer Update

The transfer expert has revealed on his latest podcast that the Blues will sign a new midfielder before the start of the 2026-27 season.

Romano confirmed that Chelsea are part of a major summer shake-up across Europe, with top clubs all looking to strengthen in the middle of the park.

“You see, City will sign a midfielder, United will sign one, maybe two,” Romano stated.

“Arsenal will sign a midfielder, Chelsea will sign a midfielder”.

The decision to invest in midfield comes as Liam Rosenior looks to find a consistent partner for Moises Caicedo.

While Enzo Fernandez remains a key figure, the club may look to push him further forward, leaving a gap in the deeper role.

Chelsea currently have options, but injuries remain a major concern. Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo have both struggled to stay fit since joining the club, raising questions about their long-term reliability.

Meanwhile, Andrey Santos continues to impress, but interest from Manchester United could put his future at Stamford Bridge in doubt .

If Chelsea do bring in a new midfielder, it will almost certainly trigger departures. The squad remains bloated, and one or two players will need to make way to balance the books.

Reports have already linked the Blues with several options. Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangare is reportedly a target, with Chelsea prepared to pay €45m for the Mali international.

Valentin Barco has also been strongly linked with a move from Strasbourg, though some fans question whether another squad player is the answer.

Romano’s update confirms that Chelsea recognise the need for quality and experience in the engine room. With a host of Premier League rivals also set to spend, the Blues cannot afford to stand still.
