ESPN FC Pundit Craig Burley has said that Christian Pulisic should re-think about his future at Chelsea if he doesn’t get enough game time under Frank Lampard.
The American international switched to Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund this summer. However, he has found gametime hard to come by under Lampard. The last he featured for the Blues was in the 2-2 draw against Sheffield United on August 31.
When asked whether it would be prudent for Pulisic to leave Chelsea in January, Burley had a negative reply. However, he did say state that the 20-year-old will need to assess his options if he wants to play regularly.
“No, no [Pulisic should not leave in January]” Burley said.
“I think come the end of the year, the season, you sit back and take stock when the transfer bans have all been sorted out when the manager’s future is crystal clear.”
“You wait until the end of the year and you say ‘okay, where are we? Where am I at this football club with this manager? How long is this manager going to be staying? Am I making any headway with this manager? And are they going to sign anybody else? And what kind of season have I had?’.”
“He might have played, by the end of the year, 25-30 games, plus.”
“It’s not looking likely at the moment but he may have done.”
“So I would not jump to any hasty January conclusions, it’s very, very early.”
“But the signs at the moment are it’s going to be tough.”
ESPN presenter Sebastian Salazar also highlighted that the upliftment of the transfer ban will further harm Pulisic’s chances of getting regular game time.
“It’s only going to get worse for him,” Salazar said.
“If the transfer ban, whenever it gets lifted, there’s only more talent coming in.
“[Callum] Hudson-Odoi’s only getting healthier.”
