Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca explains his plan to get back to the top

Enzo Maresca continues to dismiss any idea of a title race, despite Chelsea’s amazing comeback victory over Tottenham, which reduced Liverpool’s advantage at the top of the Premier League to four points. Spurs took advantage of two mistakes by Marc Cucurella to score through Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski, leaving the Blues 2-0 down after only 11 minutes in North London.

However, Jadon Sancho swiftly responded for Chelsea, who were fortunate not to have Moises Caicedo sent off for a harsh tackle on Pape Matar Sarr. Caicedo was later fouled by Yves Bissouma, resulting in a penalty for Chelsea. Cole Palmer scored the penalty and then beautifully put up Enzo Fernandez for Chelsea’s third goal. Palmer added another penalty, his 12th of the season, before Tottenham’s Son Heung-min scored a late consolation goal. Despite the victory, Maresca advised his men to maintain concentration.

“We don’t need Ange Postecoglou’s experience!” Enzo Maresca fires a warning

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur team has only won twice since the beginning of November, and they have been in awful form for the past month or so. However, Chelsea has been excellent this season and currently holds a commanding second-place position in the Premier League rankings. When Chelsea visits north London on Sunday, Maresca feels that Tottenham will have the advantage.

Maresca told reporters: “First of all, there’s no doubt that the fans will be present. Furthermore, we are not, in any way, favoured. Like us, they are competing in the European Championship. But we aren’t the favourites just because we’re second in the table.

Like Tottenham in 2023–24, Chelsea is being hailed as a possible Premier League title contender for Liverpool following their impressive start to the season before faltering and failing to even place in the top four. According to Maresca, as they get ready for the remainder of the season, they are not considering Spurs’ demise.
