Chelsea have made a bold summer decision, giving Djordje Petrovic and Robert Sanchez the green light to find new clubs as Enzo Maresca reshapes the squad ahead of another vital season.

Chelsea Clear Path for Two First-Team Goalkeepers as Maresca Makes Bold Summer Move

The announcement comes amid hectic activity surrounding the transfer window and the upcoming Club World Cup in the United States.

Earlier this week, Maresca’s efforts to finalise new signings hit a snag: talks with AC Milan over goalkeeper Mike Maignan collapsed, with Chelsea walking away from a £15 million proposal against Milan’s £25 million demand.

The deal isn’t dead, but with the temporary window closing, the focus naturally shifts to trimming the current roster.

According to reports, Sporting Director Graeme Bailey confirmed that both Sanchez and Petrovic have been told this summer could mark their final chapters at Stamford Bridge.

“Of those five [goalkeepers], Enzo Maresca doesn’t want any of them. Robert Sanchez has been told he can leave.

Djordje Petrovic has been told he can leave and there’s interest from Nice,” Bailey revealed.

Despite Sanchez’s strong end to the season, which helped Chelsea clinch fourth place and the Conference League trophy, Maresca now appears determined to start afresh between the posts.

Meanwhile, Petrovic’s impressive form at Strasbourg—where he earned Player of the Season—has attracted suitors across Europe, including AS Monaco and Nice.

His omission from the Club World Cup squad has added fuel to transfer speculation.

Chelsea still maintain a core of goalkeepers, including Filip Jorgensen and youngster Mike Penders, but Maresca’s overhaul suggests none are guaranteed future roles.

With the window currently closed and set to reopen next week, both Sanchez and Petrovic have the opportunity to explore their options—allowing Chelsea to pivot decisively and rebuild under Maresca’s vision.
