Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has declared his expensive touchline celebration was completely “worth it,” despite the fine and ban he received for his actions.

‘Yes, It Was Worth It’: Maresca Stands By Ban-Winning Celebration

The Italian will watch his team’s upcoming match against Nottingham Forest from the stands after being sent off in the dramatic win over Liverpool.

The incident occurred on October 4 at Stamford Bridge. After Estevao Willian scored a 95th-minute winning goal against Liverpool, Maresca sprinted down the touchline to join his players in their wild celebrations.

Having already received a yellow card earlier in the match, this action prompted referee Anthony Taylor to issue a second yellow, resulting in a red card and immediate dismissal.

The Football Association (FA) subsequently handed Maresca an £8,000 fine and a one-match touchline ban.

This means he will be absent from the dugout for Chelsea’s trip to the City Ground this Saturday. In his place, assistant coach Willy Caballero will direct the team from the technical area.

Maresca openly accepted the consequences of his passionate outburst. He described the moment as a natural reaction to the intense emotion of securing a last-gasp victory.

“It was a nice moment,” Maresca stated. He explained that such passion is part of the job and even suggested it creates a positive connection with the supporters.

When questioned about the £8,000 penalty, the manager acknowledged the rule but stood by his actions.

“It’s a lot, but it’s the rule,” he said.

“I think it was a reaction, a nice reaction. I was very happy in that moment. I need to accept the consequences. I’m quite happy to accept the consequences after that goal.”

Ultimately, when asked directly if the celebration was worth the punishment, Maresca gave a simple and definitive answer: “Yes.” His response underscores the value he places on passionate, spontaneous moments in football, even at a personal cost.
