According to an Italian source, both Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca and Tottenham Hotspur co-sporting director Fabio Paratici are interested in signing Alessandro Bastoni in 2026. The article also disclosed the Inter Milan defender’s position on either joining the Blues or Spurs.
One of the top defenders in the world, Bastoni is an important member of both the Italian national team and Inter Milan. The 26-year-old, who has won Serie A twice with Inter, was voted Serie A’s finest defender for the 2024–2025 season after receiving the same honour in 2023–2024.
The defender is now at the top of his game and has also had success with Italy, winning Euro 2020. According to The Telegraph, Chelsea has not entirely ruled out acquiring a new defender during the January transfer window because of Levi Colwill’s injury. According to FC Inter News, Enzo Maresca, the manager of Chelsea, would adore bringing Bastoni to Stamford Bridge.
Maresca is crazy about signing Serie A’s best defender
Maresca and Paratici, who would love for Tottenham to sign the Italian star, are both crazy about him, according to the Inter Milan-focused news source. Barcelona, who won La Liga the previous season and hope to win both the Champions League and La Liga again in 2025–2026, are now interested in Bastoni.
In addition to not wanting to sign with Chelsea (or Tottenham), Bastoni intends to negotiate with Inter in the upcoming months. According to FC Inter News, “first talks with his agent, Tullio Tinti, about extending his current contract, which expires in June 2028, are likely to begin in the coming months.”
Having been a member of the Nerazzurri since 2017, Bastoni is “deeply attached” to Inter and “wants” to remain there for the long haul. Chelsea, however, will be worried to hear that Arsenal has made a significant offer for a Juventus player who the Blues are interested in.
