Chelsea are currently busy in the pre-season and they last faced Club America on Wednesday night. Blues’ new manager Enzo Maresca looked happy after the win and he described Christopher Nkunku as “the ideal player.”

Chelsea had a tough start in pre-season as they faced defeat against Wrexham or Celtic. They even conceded four goals in the latter fixture.

Finally, they tasted a good win against Club America with a 3-0 win in Atalanta. Nkunku opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the third minute. Marc Guiu and Noni Madueke also got on the scoresheet.

Nkunku appeared for just 516 minutes across 14 matches in all competitions last season despite sustaining knee, hamstring and hip issues.

While talking to reporters, as quoted by football.london, the Italian coach said: “I know Christo from years ago. I loved him before I joined this club. In the way we want to play, he is the ideal player. He can play in the pocket, in the nine, on the wing. In this moment we are using him in the pocket and he is doing very well.

“The reason he is playing every game is because we know that he is coming back from injuries and needs minutes. He is doing very well and also game after game he is getting better.”

Chelsea will play Real Madrid in a pre-season game on August 7. They will kick off their Premier League campaign against Manchester City. Their pre-season will end on August 11 with a clash against Inter Milan at Stamford Bridge.
