Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has once again fuelled speculation about tensions behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge, making a bold claim about his relationship with the club’s sporting directors after Tuesday’s 3-1 League Cup win over Cardiff City.

After the match, Maresca denied he had spoken to Chelsea’s sporting directors or owners since his explosive comments following the weekend victory over Everton, when he described the previous 48 hours as the “worst” of his time at the club.
He maintained that he has been entirely focused on preparing for Cardiff, insisting that he has not held any discussions with those in charge.
“No, as I said yesterday, the day after Everton, I started to prepare Cardiff, focus on Cardiff.
Now I just said, on the bus I will watch Newcastle, and I didn’t speak with one of them.”
Maresca said to Sky Sports when asked directly whether he had communicated with the club’s sporting directors after his weekend remarks.
His comments have done little to calm the swirling rumours about a fractured relationship at the top of the club.
Typically, managers are expected to meet regularly with sporting directors, especially after results that draw media scrutiny.
Maresca’s refusal to confirm such contact has only intensified questions about his standing with Chelsea’s leadership team.
Despite the simmering tension, Maresca worked hard to underline his connection with the fans.
After the win, he made a point of celebrating with supporters, who chanted his name, and thanked them for their loyalty even during difficult spells.
“The fans have always been there,” he said, showing appreciation for their backing.
For now, Maresca insists his focus remains on the pitch but his comments about a lack of engagement with the sporting directors have kept the spotlight firmly on a simmering off-field saga at Chelsea.
