Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez wants to leave Stamford Bridge this summer to join Manchester City and work once again with incoming City boss Enzo Maresca, according to multiple reports.
Fernandez Tells Chelsea He Wants Out – Man City and Real Madrid Circle
The 25-year-old Argentina international has been a key figure for Chelsea since his arrival in February 2023.
He remains under contract until 2032, but his desire to play Champions League football is driving his push for an exit.
Incoming Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso views Fernandez as a team leader and wants to keep him.
However, the player himself seeks a move. Manchester City will replace Pep Guardiola with Enzo Maresca, who previously worked with Fernandez at Chelsea.
TeamTalk reports that Maresca now wants the Argentine at the Etihad.
The Touchline claims that Fernandez and Maresca have already held talks, with the midfielder fully open to switching clubs. Real Madrid also hold interest in the World Cup winner.
Chelsea’s owners, BlueCo, are preparing for life without Fernandez.
TEAMtalk transfer correspondent Fraser Fletcher reports that the club has identified Bournemouth’s Alex Scott as a potential replacement.
The 22-year-old English midfielder has impressed greatly this season. Outgoing Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola described Scott as “phenomenal” and “more than good enough” for England duty.
Thomas Tuchel, the England manager, included Scott in his pre-World Cup camp after a close call for the final 26-man squad.
Tuchel praised Scott’s character and commitment after the player reacted outstandingly to an initial disappointment.
Manchester United and Arsenal also want Scott. But Chelsea are stepping up their background checks and consider the young star a serious option for their own midfield overhaul.
Scott will travel to the United States with the Three Lions for the 2026 World Cup finals.
