Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic has left the door open for a potential summer departure following an impressive start to his loan spell at RC Strasbourg.

Chelsea’s Petrovic Opens Door to Move Amid Strasbourg Success

The 25-year-old Serbian has quickly established himself as a key player for the French side, showcasing the form that initially earned him a move to Stamford Bridge in 2023.

Petrovic joined Strasbourg on a season-long loan last summer after falling behind Robert Sanchez in the Chelsea pecking order under new manager Enzo Maresca.

Petrovic had made significant strides during his first season in England, stepping up as Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper when Sanchez was sidelined by injury.

His 31 appearances across all competitions, which included seven clean sheets, helped the Blues secure a sixth-place Premier League finish under Mauricio Pochettino.

However, Maresca’s preference for a ball-playing goalkeeper saw Sánchez reinstated as the starter, leaving Petrovic out of favor despite his reliability between the sticks.

He ranks among the top ten Ligue 1 goalkeepers in save percentage and has been instrumental in Strasbourg’s campaign, earning two clean sheets in 11 games.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Strasbourg’s upcoming match, Petrovic reflected on his decision to move.

“I am very happy here in Strasbourg,” he said.

“Of course, my ambition was to stay in the Premier League, but when I started working with the team here, everything clicked. It’s not a step back—it’s an opportunity to give my best for the team.”

While Chelsea is likely to consider offers for the shot-stopper next summer, his performances could significantly increase his market value, far beyond the £14 million Chelsea paid for him.

For now, Petrovic seems content in France but hasn’t ruled out making Strasbourg his long-term home.

If his form continues, his journey might be just beginning—whether at Chelsea or elsewhere.
