New Arsenal signing David Luiz has revealed the reason why he quit Chelsea to join the Gunners. The Brazilian was a surprise addition in the closing days as Arsenal shelled out £8m to sign him.

Luiz was bought in as a short-term replacement for Laurent Koscielny, who joined Bordeaux this summer.

Revealing the reasons, Luiz said,

“The cycle finished [at Chelsea]. It was a conversation between me and Chelsea and everybody. I had an opportunity to come to another big club.”

“In my life, I’ve always liked challenges. I’m not scared at all to try things. I think not too many players would make this kind of move, they would maybe be scared, or something like that.”

“I’m just trying to do big things in my life, so like I said, my cycle at Chelsea finished and now I’m excited to start a new chapter of my life here.”

Apparently, the Brazilian was unsure about the playing time he would get under Frank Lampard. The English gaffer opted for Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen in the defence with Antonio Rudiger currently serving an injury.

Luiz also said that he wanted to help Unai Emery win trophies at Arsenal and listed his relationships with technical director Edu and Raul Sahnelli as crucial reasons behind the move.

Following a 2-1 over Burnley at the Emirates yesterday, Luiz is now looking forward to featuring in Arsenal’s away trip to Liverpool next weekend.
