James’s view directly challenges a common opinion among pundits who believe Chelsea cannot win major trophies with Sanchez in goal.

Despite a debut season marked by errors, James insists the Spaniard has developed into a key asset.

Speaking to Metro, James did not hesitate to include Sanchez among the league’s best.

While he acknowledged the clean sheet records of Arsenal’s David Raya and the quality of Liverpool’s injured Alisson, he reserved special praise for Chelsea’s number one.

“I know there are a lot of people who look at Sanchez and question his capabilities but I think he is outstanding,” James stated.

He highlighted a significant improvement in Sanchez’s game this season, particularly his distribution.

“His long balls, similar to David Raya, have been exceptional, not only getting the team out of trouble, but actually starting attack moves,” James explained.

He pointed to Chelsea’s victorious Club World Cup campaign, noting that Sanchez’s distribution “against PSG was ridiculous and caused all sorts of problems.”

James believes this upgraded version of Sanchez provides a stable platform for a title push.

He confidently stated that the goalkeeper will be “the foundation for Chelsea’s challenge for the title,” crediting both the outfield players and a keeper he thinks “could deliver for them this season.”

This endorsement comes as Chelsea builds momentum under Enzo Maresca, with four consecutive wins in all competitions, including a 5-1 Champions League thrashing of Ajax.

Currently fifth in the Premier League, the Blues will look to continue their form this Saturday against newly-promoted Sunderland at Stamford Bridge.
