Former Premier League striker Darren Bent has suggested that Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford should consider a move to Chelsea if the opportunity arises, questioning “why not?” when discussing the potential transfer.
“If Chelsea Come Calling, Why Not?” – Bent’s Transfer Advice for Pickford
The comments came during a discussion about Pickford’s contract situation, with the 31-year-old goalkeeper expected to sign a new long-term deal with Everton imminently. This new contract would keep Pickford at Goodison Park until 2029.
Bent acknowledged that Pickford is “settled” at Everton but indicated that a club of Chelsea’s stature would represent a compelling career move.
“He’s settled there [at Everton]. If Chelsea come calling, why not? But they might not. That’s the problem,” Bent stated on talkSPORT Drive.
The background to Bent’s comments stems from Chelsea’s perceived instability in the goalkeeping position.
Current number one Robert Sanchez has faced criticism and scrutiny, with many Chelsea fans reportedly unconvinced by his performances.
The Blues were heavily linked with a move for AC Milan’s Mike Maignan during the summer transfer window but ultimately failed to secure a deal.
This has left questions about whether Chelsea will re-enter the market for a new goalkeeper in the upcoming transfer windows.
Despite the transfer speculation, all signs point toward Pickford reaffirming his commitment to Everton.
The new deal, set to be signed this week, is expected to include a significant pay rise and further cement his status as a key figure for the Merseyside club.
The potential transfer currently appears unlikely. With Pickford on the verge of signing a new long-term contract, Everton’s bargaining position would be strengthened, likely putting off potential suitors due to an increased transfer fee.
For now, Pickford appears focused on his future with Everton, particularly with the new ownership at Goodison Park bringing a sense of fresh optimism to the club.
