Chelsea Will Always Be Special”: Gallagher Opens Up on Exit

Conor Gallagher has finally opened up about his departure from Chelsea, the club he grew up in and represented through every level of his career.

After joining Atletico Madrid, the 24-year-old midfielder took the opportunity to set the record straight about his exit and reflect on his time at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher expected to stay at Stamford Bridge

Speaking to reporters ahead of England’s UEFA Nations League clash against the Republic of Ireland, Gallagher dismissed claims that he wasn’t technically suited for the system of Chelsea’s new management as they hire Enzo Maresca.

“I don’t think that’s true, personally,” he said confidently.

“Last season, I had a good run with Chelsea. Pochettino played me regularly, which showed he trusted me. The fans appreciated my effort, and that means a lot.”

Gallagher expressed gratitude for the faith shown in him by former boss Mauricio Pochettino, under whom he was a regular feature in Chelsea’s midfield last season.

“I’m thankful to Pochettino for giving me the chance to prove myself at Chelsea,” he added.

“It was a privilege to show the best version of myself there.”

Despite his exit, the England international holds no grudges towards the club that nurtured him from a young age. Gallagher spoke fondly of his time with the Blues, describing it as a dream come true.

“Chelsea will always be special to me. I grew up there, came through the academy, and it’s where I became the player I am today.

The memories will stay with me forever,” he said, adding that the fans’ support last season made him feel confident and appreciated.

As he prepares for England’s clash against Ireland, Gallagher seems ready to move forward, but his connection to Chelsea remains deep.

“I’m lucky,” he concluded, reflecting on his journey.

“It’s been an incredible experience.”

England will face the Republic of Ireland at the Aviva Stadium, with Gallagher eager to earn his 19th cap for the national team.
