Joe Cole has hailed Ross Barkley for his impressive display in the national team jersey last night.
“He (Barkley) needs to add arriving in the box like Frank Lampard-esque, he’s got the technique, got the size, got the physicality and he’s starting to knit them all together,” Cole said on ITV One’s televised coverage of England v Montenegro (9:45pm, 25 March).
He went on to add, “For me he is one that has played himself into the England team, I think he’s got every chance of playing himself into the Chelsea team as well because I’m a great fan of his and I think he’s got all the attributes to go and become a top, world-class midfielder.”
Lampard is a Chelsea legend who had impressive numbers and was considered one of the best midfielders and is specially known for his hard-working nature which helped him develop into a world class player. Barkley looks to follow in on that same path as he has similar traits and plays a similar role for the same club and country. He also sports the number 8 jersey sported by Lampard previously for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
