Clearlake Capital has finalized a deal to acquire the ownership stakes held by Todd Boehly and Mark Walter, taking full control of Chelsea Football Club.
Todd Boehly Exits Chelsea as Clearlake Capital Secures Full Ownership
This significant ownership transition marks the end of Boehly’s tenure as chairman, a role he will step down from immediately.
Hansjörg Wyss will continue to hold a stake in the ownership group.
The club confirmed that this shift in the boardroom will not disrupt its daily operations.
Chelsea stated there will be no changes to the club’s leadership, strategy, or day-to-day management following the transition.
Reflecting on his departure, Boehly expressed gratitude for his time at the helm.
“It has been an honour to serve as chairman of Chelsea Football Club,” Boehly said.
“I have valued my partnership with Clearlake and the wider ownership group, and the collective decisions and investment we have made to support the immediate and long-term success of the Club.
I am confident that Chelsea is well positioned for continued success under Clearlake’s leadership.”
Clearlake co-founders Behdad Eghbali and José E. Feliciano praised Boehly’s contributions during his tenure.
“Todd has been an important partner throughout our ownership of Chelsea, and we thank him for his time and contribution as Chairman,” they stated.
Clearlake has acted as the club’s majority owner since 2022. Now, with full control, the investment firm plans to double down on its commitment to the Blues.
Eghbali and Feliciano emphasized their focus on “investing in the club’s infrastructure, sporting performance, player development and delivering long-term success for Chelsea and the club’s supporters.”
The ownership group aims to build on the foundation laid over the past two years, ensuring stability and continued growth both on and off the pitch.
