Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2025–26 season.
Newcastle United Eye Christopher Nkunku in Summer Transfer Swoop
The French international, who joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in 2023 for £52 million, has struggled to secure regular playing time at Stamford Bridge due to injuries and competition for places.
According to Football Insider, Newcastle’s interest in Nkunku is contingent upon the future of their current striker, Alexander Isak.
If Isak remains at St James’ Park, it could complicate a move for Nkunku, who is seeking regular first-team football.
Nkunku’s versatility is a significant asset; he can operate as a striker, attacking midfielder, or winger, making him an attractive option for Newcastle manager Eddie Howe.
The Magpies are set to compete in European competitions next season and are keen to add depth to their squad.
However, Newcastle face stiff competition for Nkunku’s signature. Arsenal, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich have all been linked with the 27-year-old.
Chelsea are reportedly open to offers for Nkunku, valuing him at around €78 million, though interested clubs believe his lack of game time could lower his market value.
Nkunku’s time at Chelsea has been hampered by injuries, limiting his impact. Despite this, he has shown glimpses of his talent, scoring 11 goals in 10 appearances across the Conference League, FA Cup, and EFL Cup.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Newcastle’s pursuit of Nkunku will depend on several factors, including the future of Alexander Isak and competition from other top clubs.
Should the Magpies secure his services, Nkunku’s versatility and experience could prove invaluable in their quest for domestic and European success.
