Chelsea winger Tyrique George was left upset after his anticipated £22 million move to Fulham collapsed at the eleventh hour on transfer deadline day.

The 19-year-old saw his opportunity for regular first-team football vanish due to missed paperwork deadlines.

Despite undergoing a successful medical and agreeing to a five-year contract, the transfer was not completed in time. Fulham opted to sign Brazilian forward Kevin from Shakhtar Donetsk for a club-record fee instead.

George will now return to Chelsea and is expected to be included in the club’s Champions League squad for the group stage.

The promising England youth international, who progressed through Chelsea’s academy, has made 27 first-team appearances for the Blues, scoring three goals and providing five assists.

However, his path to more playing time at Stamford Bridge appears blocked following Chelsea’s summer signings of wingers Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho, along with the arrival of Estevao Willian.

In a similar deadline day disappointment, striker David Datro Fofana also saw a proposed move collapse. His loan switch to Charlton Athletic failed after the League One club missed the paperwork deadline.

The Ivorian striker, who snubbed a loan offer from Celtic earlier in the day, now faces an uncertain future at Chelsea alongside other peripheral figures like Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed:

“Tyrique George was upset after what happened yesterday because for him it was the chance to go and play.

Deal collapsed as documents weren’t signed in time. George will move in January if no other opportunities.”

Romano added that the youngster is expected to seek a move again in January if no other opportunities arise before secondary transfer windows close.

The late window failures highlight the administrative challenges clubs face on deadline day and leave two young Chelsea players in professional limbo as they seek the regular football crucial for their development.
