Chelsea's master plan to sign Ben Chilwell

Chelsea has rolled up their sleeves this year for the transfer window.

After wrapping up Hakim Ziyech and with the Werner deal all but done, the Blues have now shifted their focus to another area of concern in the first team – the left-back position.

Both Alonso and Emerson have disappointed and Chelsea identified Ben Chilwell as the ideal replacement. The problem, however, is the asking price of England left-back with the Foxes set to demand an amount in the range from 60-80 million Euros.

Chelsea has hit upon a plan to first unload their club of the deadwood. There are players like Pedro, Zappacosta, and Emerson who not only are below club standards right now but also cost the club a considerable wage bill. So letting go of Pedro, then selling Emerson/Alonso, Zappacosta, and Michy Batshuayi will definitely get the Blues close to the amount needed for signing Chilwell.

The difference at best will not exceed 10-15 million Euros, an amount Chelsea can easily afford.

Signing Chilwell will well and truly complete Lampard’s team at the moment. If the club are feeling positive about their investment, they might even dole out further cash to swap Kepa in goal for a more standard keeper.
