As speculation mounts over Alejandro Garnacho’s future at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea may not need to look far for a solution.

From Palace to the First Team: Jesse Derry Is Ready to Take Garnacho’s Spot

With the Argentine winger struggling to cement his place under Liam Rosenior and the impending arrival of Geovany Quenda, the club’s recruitment strategy points toward youth.

But rather than entering the market for another external signing, Chelsea already possess two internal options who could fill the void.

Jesse Derry and Ryan Kavuma-McQueen represent the next wave of wide talent emerging from Cobham. Derry arrived from Crystal Palace last summer and has wasted no time making an impact.

The teenager has already earned two first-team appearances under Rosenior and boasts an impressive 16 goal contributions in 27 youth-team fixtures this season.

His recent selection ahead of Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha for England’s U19 side underscores his rapid development.

Alongside him, Kavuma-McQueen offers another compelling option. The 17-year-old has been tearing through academy defenses with his direct, powerful dribbling style.

Since the start of 2026, he has registered 11 goals and two assists in just 14 appearances across club and international level.

His progress earned him a place on the bench for Chelsea’s Champions League knockout tie against Paris Saint-Germain, signaling how highly the coaching staff rate him.

With Pedro Neto and Estevao Willian currently outperforming Garnacho, and Jamie Gittens expected to add further competition, the Blues face a crowded wide department.

Rather than sanctioning a costly move for a player like FC Koln’s Said El Mala, promoting from within aligns perfectly with the club’s long-term vision under BlueCo.

For Chelsea, the answer to replacing Garnacho may already be training in their own academy. In Derry and Kavuma-McQueen, they have two ready-made successors who are already knocking on the door of the first team.
