Chelsea left-back unlikely to get buyer in summer transfer window

Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei has been urged to consider leaving Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window, as he continues to struggle for regular playing time.

Casadei Advised to Leave Chelsea in January for More Playing Time

Chelsea forward planning to leave Stamford Bridge this month

The 21-year-old Italian, who joined Chelsea from Inter Milan in 2022 for €20 million (£16.8m), has yet to secure a consistent role in the first team this season, despite making his senior debut earlier in the year.

Casadei, who spent last season on loan at Reading and Leicester City, made the decision to stay at Chelsea during the summer, turning down further loan offers in hopes of breaking into Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

However, the midfielder has only featured twice this campaign—once in the Carabao Cup against Barrow and again in the Europa Conference League against Gent.

Italy Under-21s manager Carmine Nunziata has now voiced his concern about Casadei’s limited playing time and advised him to consider a move in January if things don’t improve.

Nunziata believes the midfielder’s development hinges on regular minutes on the pitch, whether in England or back in Italy.

“If things don’t change by January, it’s only right to explore other options,” Nunziata told Rai Radio 1 Sport.

“The important thing is that young players like Cesare get game time. If he can find a team in Italy, great. But even an experience abroad can be valuable for his growth.”

Despite his limited appearances for Chelsea this season, Casadei continues to show promise on the international stage, having recently scored for Italy Under-21s in a European Championship qualifier against the Republic of Ireland.

Chelsea’s coaching staff, including former Leicester manager Enzo Maresca, have praised his development, highlighting his physicality and growing ability to play in a holding midfield role.

However, for the talented youngster, finding regular football could be key to unlocking his potential—whether that means staying at Chelsea or seeking new opportunities elsewhere.
