Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo could face a suspension from the Football Association (FA) following a post-match incident with Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke on Saturday.

FA Set to Charge Chelsea and Caicedo After Violent Conduct Review

The potential ban adds to the growing crisis at Stamford Bridge after a 3-1 home defeat where Trevoh Chalobah’s red card sparked a second-half collapse.

The incident occurred after the final whistle of a heated match. Video footage appears to show Caicedo lashing out and striking Van Hecke in the midriff, leaving the Brighton defender on the ground.

While the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) did not take action during the game, citing the footage as “inconclusive,” the FA is expected to investigate.

According to former Premier League referee Mark Halsey, retrospective action against Caicedo is a possibility once the FA reviews the event.

Halsey stated, “It appears there was an act of violent conduct on Caicedo’s part” and suggested that “the FA will look at this and there may be retrospective action taken against Caicedo”.

Halsey also indicated that both Chelsea and Brighton will likely be charged for failing to control their players.

A suspension for Caicedo would be a significant blow for manager Enzo Maresca. The team is already dealing with injuries to key players like Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill, and Caicedo is considered a crucial part of the midfield.

His potential absence is particularly poorly timed, with Chelsea’s next Premier League fixture a crucial home match against Liverpool.

The threat of a ban compounds the pressure on Chelsea after a third league game without a win.

The club’s ownership has publicly expressed its full confidence in Maresca, but the situation remains tense as the team prepares for a critical run of matches.
