Chelsea FC plans to retain young striker Marc Guiu for the remainder of the season, despite the player finding himself in a career standstill and facing public criticism from manager Enzo Maresca over his training conduct.

Chelsea keeps Guiu after training attitude warning

The 19-year-old Spaniard joined Chelsea from Barcelona in 2024 but has struggled for visibility.

After a backup role last season, the club loaned him to Sunderland in the 2025 summer window, only to recall him hastily following an injury to Liam Delap.

That move has backfired for Guiu’s prospects. With Delap now fit, Guiu has returned to the fringes of the squad and is also ineligible to play for a third club this season, leaving him in professional limbo.

Complicating matters further, manager Enzo Maresca recently singled out Guiu’s poor attitude in training.

This public rebuke has intensified the perception that the striker’s long-term future lies away from Stamford Bridge.

Nevertheless, club officials reportedly wish to keep Guiu within their setup until the campaign ends.

This decision raises questions about the pathway for a player who is currently not contributing on the pitch and is now at odds with his coach’s standards.

Guiu initially expressed optimism about his move to Chelsea, but his current reality is one of inactivity and disapproval.

While the club may see value in maintaining squad depth, the situation presents a clear setback for the teenager’s development, marking his transfer as a misstep for his progression thus far.
