Chelsea wants at least £50 million for loanee

Dortmund wants to sign Batshuayi on a permanent deal

Michy Batshuayi joined Chelsea from Marseille for £33.1 million in 2016 but couldn’t established himself as a regular starter for the team and struggled for game time. He found himself behind Diego Costa and then Alvaro Morata.

The Belgian joined Borussia Dortmund on loan for the rest of the season in January to get more first team football. He made an instant impact and scored 9 goals in 14 appearances. But he is set to miss rest of the season as he had sustained ankle ligament damage at the weekend.

But the German giants have been very impressed by the 24 years old and wants to make the deal permanent. Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed in February that they would try to sign the forward outright in the next transfer window.

But it will be very difficult to convince Chelsea as the purpose of the loan was to help Batshuayi develop and regain confidence in view of becoming a more regular member of the squad next term. The Blues even rejected Dortmund’s request to include an option to buy him as part of the loan deal.

Chelsea will demand at least £50 million from Borussia Dortmund for Batshuayi, reports the Evening Standard. And the value could even rise, if the Belgium International gets fit ahead of the World Cup and have a strong campaign.

But Dortmund also have the money as they sold Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Arsenal for £56 million in the January transfer window.
