Chelsea want to hold talks with Christian Pulisic for new contract

Pulisic will now be hoping to replicate that form at the club level once the season resumes.

According to the journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea want to hold talks with Christian Pulisic about signing a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

The USA international is seeing his deal running down and he is currently attracting interest from other Premier League clubs like Newcastle United. They are keen to sign him in the upcoming January transfer window.

The 24-year-old winger will see his contract expire at the end of next season, so the Blues are now in a position where they may have to sell him.

The West London star has not been a regular this season, so getting him to put pen to paper on an extension may prove difficult. He has made just three starts in the Premier League.

Phillips has spoken to GMS that Chelsea wants to hold talks with Pulisic over a new deal but are not confident that he will sign one at this moment in time.

The journalist said: “They want to hold talks with him and see if he’s open to staying beyond [2024]. At the moment, they’re not getting a feeling that he’s going to do that, so I think in the summer is when we’ll really be having a conversation about Pulisic’s future.”

The USA were recently knocked out by the Netherlands, but Pulisic had a pretty good game and tournament in general.

His most important contribution in Qatar, though, was his strike against Iran, which took Gregg Berhalter’s side to the knockout round.

Pulisic will now be hoping to replicate that form at the club level once the season resumes.
