Graeme Souness Warned Liverpool About Resurgent Chelsea

Chelsea have been advised to pursue Liverpool’s talented goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher, as they seek to bolster their options between the posts.

‘He’s Ready to Be No. 1’ – Chelsea Advised to Sign Liverpool’s Kelleher

Former Premier League defender Richard Dunne has highlighted Kelleher’s abilities, suggesting that the 26-year-old is ready to step into a starting role at a top club.

Kelleher’s performances earlier this season have not gone unnoticed. Stepping in during Alisson Becker’s injury absence, he showcased his shot-stopping prowess, notably saving a Kylian Mbappe penalty in a 2-0 victory over reigning champions Real Madrid.

His contributions were instrumental in Liverpool’s ascent to the top of the Premier League and their dominance in the Champions League group stages.

Despite these commendable displays, Kelleher has found himself back on the bench following Alisson’s return.

With Liverpool securing Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia—who is set to join the squad next season—Kelleher’s future at Anfield appears uncertain.

This situation has led to speculation about his potential departure in search of regular first-team football.

Dunne believes that Kelleher’s talent warrants a starting position and that a move away from Liverpool would be beneficial.

He stated, “He’s no longer looked upon as just a young second-choice goalkeeper; he’s one of the best keepers in the league. Hopefully, he finds the best solution.”

Dunne further emphasized that clubs like Chelsea, who have faced inconsistencies in their goalkeeping department, could greatly benefit from Kelleher’s services.

Chelsea’s current goalkeeping situation has been less than ideal. Both Robert Sánchez and Filip Jorgensen have made notable errors this season, contributing to the team’s slide from second to fifth in the Premier League standings.

The acquisition of a reliable goalkeeper like Kelleher could provide the stability needed to reinforce their defensive line.

However, recent reports indicate that Chelsea may not be actively pursuing Kelleher.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has stated that the club is not working on a deal to sign the Irish goalkeeper, suggesting that manager Enzo Maresca is content with his current options.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Kelleher’s desire for regular playing time may prompt a move. While Chelsea’s interest remains speculative, other Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United, have also been linked with the goalkeeper.

Kelleher’s next career move will undoubtedly be a topic of interest for many, as he seeks a platform to showcase his undeniable talent on a regular basis.
