Barcelona are hopeful of signing Cesar Azpilicueta this summer.
The veteran defender has just one year left on his Chelsea contract and has been heavily linked with Barcelona this summer.
The Spaniard himself wants a return to Spain after a decade-long stint at the West London club.
If Chelsea are unable to sign any other defenders this summer window, they simply can’t afford losing a player like Azpilicueta.
But the defender earlier has reiterated his desire to go back to Spain and Barcelona will be looking to secure his services.
His versatility is what makes him pivotal to the squad and ESPN pundit Shaka Hislop believes the Blues cannot afford to let him leave.
“He (Azpilicueta) is club captain and an integral part of that set-up,” Hislop told ESPN.
“If you’re Chelsea and there’s not an absolute need to sell, and you feel you can convince Azpilicueta to at least stay on for a little while longer, absolutely you do it.”
