Conte wants enthusiasm from his players

Chelsea have been struggling this season in the Premier League. They are currently 5th in the league and adrift 5 points from Champions League Qualification.

Antonio Conte, won Premier League in his debut season with Chelsea, has struggled this season and led to question marks over his long term future at Chelsea. It is thought that if Chelsea don’t qualify for Champions League, the Italian will leave the club this summer.

Chelsea will face Tottenham, who are at 4th position, this Sunday at Stamford Bridge. This is a must win game for them and if they fail, it will be very difficult for the Blues to qualify for the Champions League.

Conte is unsure how qualification for Champions League would affect his future and when he was asked about, he told live on Sky Sports:

“I don’t know.

“I must be honest, I don’t know. This is not my problem. It’s a problem for the club. It’s not my problem.

“For us (managers) it is not sure. You can have a contract but you don’t know what will happen after one or two games. We depend a lot on the result.”

Ahead of what appears to be one of the most important games of Chelsea’s season, Conte called on his players to replicate the kind of passion he is well known for demonstrating on the sidelines.

He said: “I think it is very important for the players to show the passion and enthusiasm during the game. I think the passion is the first important thing in football for the coach and for the player.

“If you don’t have passion it is very difficult to reach something important in football as players or as a manager.

“I think also when I was a player I showed in every moment my passion inside and outside the pitch. I wasn’t a calm player.

Chelsea identifies Lascelles as next John Terry

Chelsea are having a disappointing season with their defense struggling this campaign. With David Luiz fallen out of favor and Gary Cahill suffering from injuries, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have become Chelsea’s first choice defense.

Though they have done a pretty decent job but they lack the requisite leadership skills and experience. The Blues want someone like their former captain John Terry and are looking for a new centre back in the summer transfer window.

According to Daily Mirror, Chelsea have identified Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles as their next John Terry. They are already planning a £30 million bid for the 24 year old this summer after being impressed by the defender’s defending and leadership skills.

Lascelles has become one of the main players for Rafa Benitez this season. Newcastle United have struggled this season and fighting against relegation, but the defender has been praised for his performances.

He has grown in stature since joining the club and was given the captain’s armband in august 2016. The defender since then has impressed with his leadership qualities both on and off the pitch which has led him to be compared with Terry.

Though he stated that he is happy at his club but if Chelsea bids for him, he would be tempted to join them as it would be an upgrade in terms of both stature and wages.

Chelsea in three way battle for Alderweireld

Chelsea wants to add defensive reinforcements in the summer transfer window. With David Luiz fallen out of favor, looks likely to leave this summer and Gary Cahill entering his final years, the Blues are looking for quality replacement.

Chelsea have turned their attention towards their London rival Tottenham’s centre-back Toby Alderweireld. Chelsea are determined to bring in the Belgian to add experience alongside 21-year-old Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, report The Mirror.

Alderweireld’s relationship with his current club has become strained. The defender is currently earning £50,000-a-week but has demanded £150,000-a-week. The club’s board is refusing to pay such a high wage for 29 year old and club coach Pochettino also backs the board.

Alderweireld has a release clause in his contract which will drop his value to £25 million in 12 months time and Spurs want to sell him for around £40 million before his value drops. Chelsea are looking to take advantage of this situation and the Belgian will be interested too since he will be getting the game play time that he is not getting at Tottenham.

Manchester United and Barcelona are also interested in the Belgium International and are keeping tabs on him ahead of the summer transfer window.

Alderweireld’s last Tottenham appearance came in their 2-2 FA Cup draw at Rochdale on February 18.

Antonio Conte likely to leave Chelsea this summer

After Chelsea’s disappointing campaign this season, it has been speculated that Antonio Conte will leave the club this summer with PSG likely to be the destination.

Chelsea are currently 5th in the Premier and in danger of missing Champions League next season. Qualifying for Champions League will be key for Chelsea to keep hold of their star players.

Following players could leave Chelsea during the summer transfer window:

David Luiz

David Luiz had a very rough season. He has been dropped to the bench by Conte as he prefers Christensen more than the Brazilian.

With suffering from injuries too, he has played just 4 times for the Blues. With his contract expiring in 2019 Chelsea would like to cash in on him.

Gary Cahill

Another defender who is not having a great time with Chelsea. Cahill has lost his place to Antonio Rudiger, who arrived last summer. His captain’s armband is often taken by Cesar Azpilicueta.

With his contract also expiring next summer, Chelsea are unlikely to give him a new contract extension.

Marcos Alonso

Alonso has been brilliant for Chelsea since he arrived from Florentina in 2016. The left-back has improved massively under Conte and is regarded as one the best in the country. He is also known for deadly free kicks.

He has been in brilliant form this season too scoring 7 goals and has attracted interest from Real Madrid. He started his career at Real Madrid and would be tempted to rejoin them. All depends on Champions League qualification.

Cesc Fabregas

Despite getting many chances from Conte this season, Fabregas hasn’t had the season he would have wanted.

His contract also expires next summer and Chelsea would want to decide quickly about his future. AC Milan are interested in him.

Thibaut Courtois

Courtios has been been heavily linked with a transfer move and Real Madrid have shown the most interest in him.

Real Madrid are looking for a goalkeeper this summer and have kept tabs on the Belgian.

With his contract also expiring next summer and there are still no new contract talks, he could very well leave this summer.

Eden Hazard

No doubt Hazard is the best player for Chelsea and without him they have struggled. Chelsea would definitely want to keep him for a long time.

But with Chelsea in the danger of missing Champions League this season and this would be their second time is last three seasons, Hazard might want to move to a different club to test himself.

Real Madrid have been a long admirer of him and Chelsea will have a real fight to keep him from going.

Bayern Munich keeping tabs on Morata

Alvaro Morata joined Chelsea last summer from Real Madrid for a fee around £60 million. Though Antonio Conte’s first choice was Romelu Lukaku who went to join Manchester United.

Morata found his form early in England, with scoring and assisting in his Premier League Debut. Scored important goals against Manchester United and Atletico Madrid. But recently he has lost his form, scoring just 1 goal since boxing day. His back injury and arrival of Giroud from Arsenal didn’t help his situation.

Morata was also dropped from Spain National team recently. According to reports he is frustrated at the lack of game times and maybe could leave Chelsea.

According to AS, Bayern Munich are looking towards Morata to replace Lewandowski and Chelsea are also willing to let go the Spain International.

Nainggolan is very happy at Roma

Radja Nainggolan has been performing for Serie A club Roma at a very high level constantly for the past few years and has been linked to numerous top clubs particularly Chelsea.

He has been extensively linked with the Blues for the past few seasons and was on the verge of joining them two years ago but a deal never materialized. Chelsea are still interested in signing him this summer.

The Belgian has been linked with a move to rivals Inter Milan too but the midfielder has stated that he is happy at Roma and does not want to leave the club this summer. He also revealed the reason he turned down Chelsea two years ago.

“Inter? There was interest from them because the coach rates me and vice versa, even if you wrote 1,000 stories about it… but let’s forget it,” Nainggolan told Il Tempo.

“I’ve always had a good relationship with Spalletti, he put me in the best condition to express myself, but ultimately there was no chance that I’d leave Roma.

“The truth is that in the past, I rejected important offers. Two years ago I could’ve gone to Chelsea and earn more, but for me there is not only the economic aspect ”
