Chelsea Face Challenge In Paredes Chase

0

Chelsea have hit a stumbling block in their chase to land Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes, who has been eyed by the Blues as a replacement for their departed midfield ace Cesc Fabregas.

According to the Express, Zenit Saint Petersburg, the club that Paredes currently plays for, have rejected the opening bid made by the west London club to bring the player to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.

Reportedly, Maurizio Sarri’s side tabled a bid of £26.8million to land the player but the Russian side have not agreed to let their star player leave for the aforementioned amount as they are looking to make a significant profit on the £24million they spent on the player while signing him from AS Roma.

The reports also say that the Blues are determined to secure the signature of the player to stabilise their midfield and might come back with a higher bid to land the player. Reportedly, the west London club are set to offer the Argentine ace a four year long deal on £80,000 per year.

Paredes has himself suggested that he is interested in leaving Zenit but he might prefer a move back to his boyhood club Boca Juniors in Argentina. However, with Maurizio Sarri admitting that he is in need of some experienced players in his side after Fabregas’ departure, the Blues might be in the hunt to strike a deal to get the player to Stamford Bridge.

Maurizio Sarri has joined previous managers Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho in finding Eden Hazard a defensive liability on the wings.

The current Italian boss covered it up pretty well by saying Hazard is good as a number nine as it helps the team defensively but the overall summary of it would mean that Hazard in the wings is a defensive liability.

“I wanted to see the solution with three small players, I think in this moment it is a very good solution because we are not less dangerous in the offensive phase and then in the defensive phase we are more balanced. In the last six matches, we conceded only three goals and one was from a penalty. I think that at the moment, in the defensive phase, we are doing very well. One of the reasons I think, in my opinion, is that Eden is playing in that position.”

Hazard is perhaps Chelsea‘s best outlet into attack any day and special players like him should not carry the burden of defending as well when they can be so lethal in their day job. Sarri seems to have found the right balance for the team with Eden in number 9 position.

Chelsea asked to break bank for striker

Chelsea’s hunt for a new striker is getting desperate now and the other clubs seem to be sensing it. Bournemouth are reportedly asking Chelsea to break their club record transfer fee by providing £75m if they are to sign Callum Wilson from the Cherries.

Chelsea begun the season with Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud in place. As expected, neither of the strikers have been able to live up to the required levels with Morata providing another horror show over the 6 months once again.

Despite all his technical talent, the Spaniard is simply not ready to fight the mental battle to be a top striker in a top club. He is on the verge of being loaned out with Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla interested in him. Olivier Giroud is trying his best but he is naturally not a Sarri striker to play with and hence the problem at Chelsea.

The Blues have their eyes on either on Gonzalo Higuain or Callum Wilson. While Higuain is Sarri’s choice, Wilson is being preferred by the board although it will now cost them £75m.

Chelsea’s extremely pragmatic board have made some horrendous signings in the past despite all their expert work and could be going the same way with Wilson again.

Crystal Palace Eager To Add Chelsea Stars To Squad

0

Crystal Palace are looking to add two Chelsea stars to their side, one of them being the out-of-favour winger Victor Moses and the other former Blues midfielder Jon Obi Mikel. Moses is a former Palace player and left Selhurst Park a decade ago.

It has not been a good season for the Eagles in the Premier League as they have been dishing out inconsistent performances and have been bogged down due to the lack of quality attackers in their side. Talisman Wilfried Zaha has also not been in the best of forms this season and this calls for a few new faces to be added to the side.

The midfield has done comparatively well but there is room for improvement. An experienced campaigner like Jon Obi Mikel can always come handy in this situation and it would be a good acquisition for the Eagles nevertheless.

According to Teamtalk, the Eagles are more interested in bringing Moses back to Selhurst Park on loan from Chelsea to beef up their attack for the rest of the season. However, in the case of Mikel, it would be an easier option to get the player on a free transfer as the player has already been left by his former club Tianjin Teda in the Chinese Super League.

Chelsea close in on Fabregas’ replacement

When Fabregas walked into Chelsea four and a half years back, he replaced club legend Frank Lampard who walked out.

Since then, Fabregas has had a challenging time at Stamford Bridge. The former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder had huge shoes to fill but like every time before in his career, he rose to the occasion.

He was never a direct replacement for Lampard given his different playing style, so Fabregas stuck to what he did best; assists. A couple of years later, out went Jose Mourinho and in came Antonio Conte and Fabregas was frozen out. However, he fought his way back into the team and under new the management of Sarri, he seemed to be attempting the same thing again.

However, for some strange reason, Chelsea found Fabregas surplus to requirements and moved him on to AS Monaco at the first chance they got. This left Sarri’s team in a spot of bother as the Spaniard is the only like for like replacement for Jorginho.

It is now being reported that Chelsea are closing in on a deal for 24 year old Leandro Paredes from Zenit St.Petersburg as a replacement for Cesc Fabregas. The player retweeted a tweet talking about a possible move to the Bridge and reports claim that he has agreed personal terms with the English club already.

Higuain deal is an example of how things work at Chelsea

Sky Sports specialist Dharmesh Sett has lifted the lid on how transfers in Chelsea work and why the system is based on one person’s opinion.

“What we do know is the final decision on a transfer rests on Marina Granovskaia,” Sheth said. If Sarri likes a player and Granovskaia agrees, the wheels are put in motion and it goes to the very top where it’s signed off by Mr Roman Abramovich.”

“This is how it works – transfers at Chelsea are decided between the manager and the sporting director. Since Michael Emenalo left the club as sporting director in 2017, Marina Granovskaia has become an all powerful figure at Stamford Bridge. She also oversees the academy and scouting network as well.”

“Now it would explain why there are differing views over who the club wants to bring in. Sarri’s choice is not necessarily the same as Granovskaia’s, as we’ve seen with Gonzalo Higuain. It’s thought that Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson would fit the bill as far as Chelsea are concerned.”

“We know Bournemouth have said he’s not for sale but if you look at factors like his age, he’s 26, he’s English, he would provide a sell-on value as well, he has experience in the Premier League. It appears with right now that Sarri is waiting for Granovskaia’s approval before it goes ahead with the deal to bring in Gonzalo Higuain.”

WIllian wants to stay at Chelsea

0

Chelsea star Willian said that he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge. There have been several reports since the summer that linked Willian to a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Barcelona were eager to sign the Brazilian in the summer and even made three bids, all of which were rejected by Chelsea.

The Blaugrana have reignited their interest in signing Willian, offering Malcom and a sum of money for the Brazilian. However, Chelsea have also reported this offer which reportedly sums up to £50 million.

Amidst transfer rumors, Willian confirmed his loyalty to Chelsea. Speaking after Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Newcastle where he scored the winner, Willian said, “My future is here. I have one-and-a-half years on my contract left, and I want to stay until it is finished. I don’t know if the club wants me to sign a new contract, but my focus is here. I would like a new contract. If they want it, I want it.

I have been here for five-and-a-half years, won a lot of titles. I am very happy.”

Willian’s winner against Newcastle United was his third Premier League goal of the season and his 5th in 32 appearances across all competitions.

Chelsea next face Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday.

Jadon Sancho has encouraged Hudson-Odoi to move to the Bundesliga

Jadon Sancho has encouraged Callum Hudson-Odoi to leave Chelsea and join him in the Bundesliga.

Hudson-Odoi has been the subject of repeated biding from Bavarian giants Bayern Munich, with the German giants matching Chelsea’s valuation of the youngster with their latest bid.

The 18-year-old has been on the periphery of Chelsea’s first-team since last season but he is yet to start a game in the Premier League.

Unsure about his future at the club and may be disillusioned by Chelsea’s poor record of upbringing academy products, Hudson-Odoi has refused to put pen to paper on a new deal.

Should he swap Chelsea for Bayern, he would follow the footsteps of Jadon Sancho and Reiss Nelson, both of whom have thrived in the Bundesliga following their moves away from England.

And Sancho believes that his close friend Hudson-Odoi can take his career to a new level in the Bundesliga.

“Everyone has different pathways. Me and Callum are close friends. I know what he’s all about.

“He’s the next one I would say. He’s very good and talented, fast, good dribbling skills. And I’ve told him the Bundesliga is a nice league. I just told him to do whatever is best for him.”

Sancho also believes other young players at top-flight clubs in England should be looking to continue their careers away from the Premier League.

“I’ve told them [his former England youth team-mates] that this is a league that is keen to express the youth,” he added.

“Every young player in England wants to do well and just wants to help their families, be someone that their family can be remembered for.

“The World Cup showed everyone in England that young players are coming through and working hard to try to get a chance. My chance was to come out to Germany.

“[But] coming to Germany is not easy. People might think it’s easy because I’m doing so well, but it’s not at all.

“You have to have a strong mentality and just focus and sacrifice a lot of things like family and that’s not an easy thing to do.”

Sarri believes Hazard as a false nine helps Chelsea defensively

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri believes that using Eden Hazard as the spearhead of the attack helps Chelsea in the defensive phase.

Sarri has been forced to use the Belgian as the false nine between the two wingers up front in recent weeks, with both Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud struggling for form and fitness.

Deployed as a false nine, Hazard teed up Willian for the winner in the second half after Pedro’s opener was cancelled out by Ciaran Clark’s header.

Asked if Hazard enjoyed operating as a striker, Sarri said: “Not in the first half. In the second half, my feeling was that he enjoyed it.

“I wanted to see the solution with three small players. I think at this moment it is a very good solution because we are not less dangerous in the offensive phase and then in the defensive phase we are more balanced.

“In the last six matches, we conceded only three goals and one was from a penalty. I think that at the moment, in the defensive phase, we are doing very well. One of the reasons I think, in my opinion, is that Eden is playing in that position.”

Sarri also admitted that Chelsea lack penetration in the box with Hazard leading the line, an area the Italian believes that his team will have to work on.

“For his characteristics, of course, he goes in the direction of the ball. We need to learn to attack spaces, or attack the box with the other players,” he said.

“It was better [against Newcastle] with the other wingers in attacking spaces. We scored after 10 minutes by attacking spaces behind the lines with Pedro. I remember very well at the beginning of the second half, we had the same situation with Willian.

“So it is better now. We need to improve in attacking the box. When the ball is outside, it is impossible for Eden to stay in the box.”

Hudson-Odoi will be at Chelsea’s level soon, says Sarri

Sarri is confident that Hudson-Odoi can reach Chelsea’s level in a couple of months

Callum Hudson-Odoi has been the subject of repeated bidding from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich but Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is confident that the youngster can reach the level that he wants within “one or two months”.

The 18-year-old has been on the fringes of Chelsea’s first-team since last season but he is yet to start a game in the Premier League, with his heroics in the 4-0 win over PAOK in the group stages of the Europa League being the highlight of his season so far.

Perplexed by his future at Stamford Bridge, Hudson-Odoi has refused to put pen to paper on a new deal but Sarri claims that more playing time might be on the horizon for the prodigy.

When asked about the lack of depth in the squad following Fabregas’s departure to Monaco, Sarri said, “The bench is not very short. It has been left short in only one position at the moment because I think that Hudson-Odoi is improving.”

“Hudson-Odoi in one or two months will be at the same level as the other players.”

“I hope the same [as Hudson-Odoi] for Ampadu. Of course, for playing as a central midfielder in our team is not easy,” said Sarri.

“We need to try and try and try in training with him. I think that he is able to do it.

“The player who plays in that position usually touches the ball about 120-130 times and so I think that we need a specialist there.”
