Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud wants Tottenham move

0

The Blues need to sell one striker, in order for another one to arrive.

And it seems that the Frenchman will get his expected move away.

Tottenham need a new striker before the transfer window slams shut on Friday, but chairman Daniel Levy has reportedly only given Jose Mourinho £10 million to spend. As a result, they are reportedly interested in making a move for out-of-favour Chelsea star Olivier Giroud.

Jose Mourinho has been desperately seeking additional forward options during the January transfer window, with Harry Kane having suffered a torn hamstring against Southampton on New Year’s Day that is likely to see him miss the majority of the remainder of the season.

According to Sky Italia, Spurs have entered ngotiations with Giroud and have thus, offered him a 1.5-year contract. Inter Milan are no longer convinced that signing a striker is a good idea and they have asked the Frenchman to wait for them until June. The 33-year-old doesn’t consider than an option as he needs playing time to earn a spot at Euro 2020.

However, the Blues don’t seem to like the idea of letting their player join a rival club. The lack of options and the possible arrival of Dries Mertens could change their minds.

The Blues are looking to sing ta striker tehse days.

And they have set their eyes on Mertens.

Chelsea are negotiating with Serie A side Napoli in attempt to lure Dries Mertens. The Belgian’s current contract expires in the summer, which should allow the Blues to get him on the cheap if negotiations go smoothly.

According to Sky Italia, Napoli had offered Mertens to the Premier League outfit on a six-month loan deal, but Chelsea refused. Now, the Blues are willing to bid €6-7 million to sign the striker in January and Gennaro Gattuso’s side are yet to accept this offer.

The 32-year-old is in the twilight years of his career, but he is still one of the most potent goal scorers in European football. In the Champions League this season alone, the Belgian has scored five times in just six games, including a goal in the 1-1 draw away at Liverpool.

Goals have been slightly harder to come by in Serie A, with Mertens mustering just four in his 16 appearances. However, Mertens scored 62 goals in his three previous league campaigns for Napoli, which is a mighty impressive return. Chelsea’s young squad are crying out for experience and Mertens could provide just that.

Frank Lampard said of the 17-year-old, “I thought Billy Gilmour was the best player on the pitch for the period of time that he was on the pitch. So I absolutely trust him. He came on, passed it, moved it, simple passes through the lines. Had little bits of contact and I trusted them to come on and do the job.”

Gilmour told the press, “In pre-season, the manager had a chat with me and said he knew I wanted to go on loan, but told me it would be better if I stayed. Obviously it’s working. He’s looking at younger players now. With the transfer ban it’s hard, but it’s a good experience for younger players. I’m mainly playing Under-23s, we’re top of the league and have won a lot of our games.

“But hopefully I can try and make sure I get more first team games. The manager talks to you normally, tells you that you are doing well, and if I want to keep training with them I need to keep my standards up. When I go back to the Under-23s I need to be the best player and treat it like the first team.”

Chelsea ‘Being Pushed’ To Sign Wilfried Zaha

Chelsea 'Being Pushed' To Sign Wilfried Zaha

Chelsea are yet to make any new signings after getting their transfer ban lifted a window earlier.

Fans have been teased with several top figures in European football but none made their way through the Stamford Bridge doors this January.

However, there is still time until the 31st as Wilfried Zaha is reportedly being pushed to sign with with the Blues. “We know Zaha wants out of Crystal Palace, we know that a number of agents have had mandates to move him in this window,” Castles said on the Transfer Window podcast. “We know he is being pushed to Chelsea and there is interest from Chelsea’s hierarchy in taking him. My information is that Palace want to hold onto Zaha for the rest of the season for understandable reasons because he is the centre point of their attack.

“But I think they are savvy enough to realise the pressure from the player’s side to obtain a move is such that if one of those big clubs, who can afford to pay a proper transfer fee for him and Palace have been asking £80million or more for the player and can afford to push his wages to a level of about £200,000-a-week, do come in with an offer it’s going to be very hard for them to retain him.

“So what they are doing here is giving themselves a degree of insurance in that they would have another player [Carrasco] in the squad with the ability to operate in a similar fashion to Zaha, create and score goals for them from the left. The line is that they want two attacking talents of his type in their squad and the plan is to have both of those for the rest of the season. But I think there’s a clear connection to Zaha here and if and when they get Carrasco in this window, it will change the picture somewhat for how Zaha’s future pans out, either in the remainder of this window or in the summer.”

“We lost ground last summer and we need to make moves now to take us forward,” Frank Lampard told BT Sport. “I have a strong feeling of where we can improve personnel-wise to take us forward. So for me it’s clear. The money of it is not my job but I have to be honest and truthful. Short-term recruitment is something we have to get right.”

The Blues still don’t give up on a deal.

However, it all depends on a third party.

Chelsea have been tipped to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Edinson Cavani in case his move to Atletico Madrid faile to materialize.

“What we’re being told is that Cavani wants to play for Diego Simeone and is quite close to getting that move to Atletico Madrid”, correspondent Kaveh Solhekol told Sky Sport. “He has only got six months left on his contract but PSG are asking for about €15m euros and he is on wages of £360k per week.

“He hasn’t been playing regularly so I think it would be a big risk for Chelsea. Yes, there have been talks but I think it will only happen if this Atletico move falls apart.” In addition, Atletico president Cerezo has offered the Blues hope of landing Cavani, claiming the Spanish side don’t have a transfer agreement.

“There is absolutely nothing with the player,” hetold AS. “We need to score goals and we have great goalscorer, but what we are missing now is a bit of luck and we are not taking our chances. Transfers are always complicated but at the moment there is nothing.”

Frank Lampard Desperate For Chelsea To Sign New Talent

Frank Lampard Desperate For Chelsea To Sign New Talent

Frank Lampard wants the Chelsea board to “get it right” in the January transfer window after narrow victory over Hull City.

“My job, I suppose, is to work every day on the training ground,” Lampard said on BT Sport. “The other part for the club is how do we move forward by bringing in players, and we lost ground last summer.

“We’re trying to now, we need to now for the short term to push for this top four [in the Premier League]. I have a strong feeling about where we can improve personnel-wise to take us forward.”

“Recruitment when you’ve missed a [transfer] window is of course important and in the short term now it feels very important,” Lampard said. That’s something we’re working on and we have to get it right.”

Lampard has hinted where recruitment is most necessary even if he voiced his support for Michy Batshuayi. With Tammy Abraham out injured and Olivier Giroud close to leaving Stamford Bridge, there are clear signs that Chelsea need a second goalscorer. There is no telling when their number nine will return as Lampard said, “He has been getting lightly into the water and all these things, but I said [on Friday] that there’s no fracture, but other than that there is still some swelling so I don’t know.”

Pedro to join AS Roma?

Chelsea are reportedly set to lose their veteran forward Pedro.

The former Barcelona winger Pedro has been very poor this season at Chelsea. The World Cup and Euro winner has had a see-saw career at Chelsea.

In his first season at the club, Chelsea finished 10th and Pedro was below average. In the very next season however, the Blues won the league and Pedro was at the heart of that Antonio Conte team scoring screaming winners in crucial ties like away matches versus Everton.

However, ever since then there has been a steady decline in his graph. Despite starring for Maurizio Sarri for a few months last season, Pedro has surely lost his spark.

His contract at the club is set to get over this summer and it is sure Chelsea will not extend it. Lampard is looking toward’s the future and Pedro at 33 is surely not in the plans.

The Spaniard has now been linked with a move to AS Roma. The Italian side are struggling as well and need to get in players they can to improve. Their budget is low and hence getting someone like Pedro will be viable since he will come for cheap.

Chelsea have really missed Loftus-Cheek, and here’s why!

Chelsea have really missed Loftus-Cheek, and here's why!

Frank Lampard, Chelsea’s manager, reveals that Reuben Loftus-Cheek had the skill of scoring goals from his midfield position – and the Blues have certainly missed that.

Loftus-Cheek has injured his Achilles and was out for seven whole months this season. His injury, however, is healing and he is limping his back to the pitch now!

The 24-year old midfielder has resumed training. His plan is to train with the Under-23s and Under-19s to bring him back to shape and get his old form back. If anything, Lampard is definitely relieved.

“I think you will miss Ruben; I don’t care who you are,” Lampard told Goal.

“You’ll miss his abilities. His natural physique, his ability to move the ball and score goals like he did last season, that has to be a big part of his game as well.

“We’ve missed a player of that level and his return has put a smile on everyone’s face, because he is popular with his team-mates too.

“It was the first day with us fully on Friday and it was a light session so that suited him. He has a fair way to go still. He just needs a full week training with us first, a tough week.”

Kovacic versatility hailed by Lampard

Kovacic versatility hailed by Lampard

Frank Lampard has been impressed by the versatility of Mateo Kovacic.

He said, “I think he can do both [attacking and defensive] roles. We changed the midfield around and rotated it in terms of how we’re playing — I never want it to be absolutely structured — and there’s games he’s played well as part of a two and he’s almost doing a bit of both roles. I think he can do it very well.”

“I watched him last year and liked him from afar. It wasn’t the easiest year for him — sometimes he started, sometimes he didn’t — but I just saw an actual talent in the way he can take people out of the game in midfield and he travels really quickly with the ball and can play really nice combinations.

“But there are other parts of his game that we want to improve. We want to see him score more goals and when he’s in deep defensive areas, of course he has to be very aware to pick up runners and do that job as well.”

“For the development of him, and we’ve got a really good relationship, he loves to talk about his game and he’s very intelligent, he listens when you speak to him, and I think he can get better at all parts of it. He’s very talented and I love working with him and I want to help him improve because he’s important to us.”
