What Might 2021 Have in Store for Chelsea?

Chelsea is without a doubt one of the most well-known English football clubs and as a result, it enjoys a truly massive fan base.

Unfortunately, this team has faced a rocky and uncertain season thanks in no small part to the current global health situation. While some will view 2020 as all but a complete write-off, others are beginning to look ahead in order to better appreciate what 2021 may have in store. What predictions can we make well in advance and what are the chances that Chelsea walks away with a Premiere League title? Each of these questions deserves to be examined in greater detail.

What Might 2021 Have in Store for Chelsea?

A Look Ahead: The Best and Worst Players of 2021

We are already aware that Chelsea brings much to the pitch in terms of its roster. There are nonetheless some names who seem to dominate the game while others might be better left on the bench. The majority of analysts feel that Mason Mount should remain at the top of his game throughout 2021. As he continues to enjoy the momentum of his debut, there is no reason why her previous levels of performance will not be exhibited in the near future.

However, it is difficult to see how Hakim Ziyech will have any real impact in the coming season. This is particularly the case when we recall that he is likely to be overshadowed by other players such as Kai Havertz and Timo Werner. Although we are definitely not writing him off by any means, his 2021 future does not look entirely promising. This is why it is always a good idea to check out the odds here as the upcoming season draws nearer.

What About a Premier League Title?

This question represents the big “if” throughout 2021. Some feel that Chelsea does indeed have what it takes to walk away champions. It is still critical to remember that other formidable clubs such as Manchester City and Liverpool are not going away any time soon. The majority of analysts feel that the gap between Chelsea and these organisations is simply too wide to overcome within a single season. However, this does not necessarily signify that Chelsea is destined for the doldrums. It is still perfectly reasonable to predict that Chelsea will finish within the top three.

In the same respect, a Champions League title could be well within their reach thanks to such a dynamic and cohesive squad. This will once again depend upon the performance of individual players as well as how management adapts to a changing landscape. We should also keep in mind that the 2021 season could still be hampered by health restrictions, so there are really no certainties in this day and age.

Either way, Chelsea has what it takes to go far in 2021 and beyond. Thanks to an influx of younger players and a host of talent, fans should not be disappointed with what 2021 has in store. Let’s just hope that there is an actual season to enjoy.

Hakim Ziyech bagged his second man of the match in as many starts for Chelsea on Saturday.

The Moroccan missed the beginning of the season with some injuries but has started the last two matches. In that time, he has scored two goals and assisted one and it has been perfect this week for Ziyech.

“Life at Chelsea is good, I am where I am supposed to be,” Ziyech told the club’s website.

“I feel good and feel at home and everything is fine.”

The former Ajax winger is expected to lead the young pack of attackers at Chelsea being the most experienced winger of the lot.  Ziyech was lauded by manager Frank Lampard after the win at Turf Moor.

Asked about Lampard’s comments, the playmaker added: “It is one of the most important things, that you play with confidence and don’t be scared of making mistakes.”

Chelsea have looked solid of late keeping five clean sheets in their last six matches. Their new recruits have not only gelled well in attack with Werner and Havertz scoring 9 and assisting 6 combined in 10 matches but in defence as well with Silva, Chilwell and Mendy yet to concede a goal everytime they have started a match together.

Joe Cole has tipped Frank Lampard to go for the Premier League title this season.

The former Chelsea player and current BT Sport pundit has tipped his former club and country team-mate and current Chelsea manager to try and win the Premier League this season itself.

Chelsea have not made the most impressive of start but their new look team studded with stars are coming together at the Bridge and Cole expects Chelsea to only take off from here.

“It was an exceptional performance and it’s been a steady improvement,” Cole said on BT Sport after Chelsea thrashed Burnley 3-0 at Turf Moor.

“Now it looks like Chelsea can make a run of it. It’s been a long time since Chelsea have looked as comfortable defending. Mendy didn’t have a shot to save.

“It’s good times for the club at the moment and it’s just about consistency. You look at the fixture list and there’s winnable games to come.

“By Christmas time Chelsea could be right up there. It’s game on.

“I think there are three or four clubs who can go for the title and Chelsea are certainly one of them.”

Chelsea summer signing Kai Havertz criticised by former Blues hero Frank Leboeuf.

Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf lauded the squad’s defensive efforts against Burnley and was very pleased with Hakim Ziyech’s debut performance.

But German playmaker Kai Havertz who joined from Bayer Leverkusen this summer failed to make an impression on the former Blues centre-back.

“I think it’s getting better, some players are getting better,” Leboeuf said.

I’m very pleased for Ziyech, getting fit and giving his best.

“But I’m still not convinced about Havertz, I still want more from him.

“I want more impact from him where I think he disappears.

“I’m sure Frank is still not completely happy with the way they worked together.

“Sometimes it seemed like they were looking for each other like they don’t really know each other.

“I’m looking for something better, much better from Chelsea.

“With the players they have, they’re capable of giving much more than we saw today.

“Even though they got the win, the clean sheet, everything was going their way, but I can’t be happy with the performance 100 per-cent.”

Christian Pulisic was all set for his second consecutive Premier League start earlier yesterday against Burnley.

However, the American speedster pulled out minutes before kick off due to a hamstring tension and Frank Lampard has provided us with an update on the situation.

“Christian had a small sensation in his hamstring. So, we had to pull him,” Lampard told a news conference.

“He couldn’t play the game and he felt that in part of the warm-up. We will have to scan it.

“He is frustrated as he got fit and we rested him in the week where he comes on and scores. He is so keen to do well for us but we have to scan him and see how it is, so I can’t give you a time on that.”

Pulisic has been struggling with injuries for quite some time now and the former Borussia Dortmund winger has missed almost 50% of all his Chelsea games since his arrival.

The nature of football is such that some players do have more injury crises and Pulisic does seem the injury-prone star.

Chelsea will have to very careful with their young star or we might see his career fade away sooner rather than later.

Frank Lampard was a happy man on Saturday evening.

The night began on a rather tough note with Christian Pulisic pulling out due to a hamstring blow minutes before the game began. However, when the final whistle blew, Chelsea had kept their fifth clean sheet in the last six games, Werner and Ziyech had scored and the Blues boss was a happy man.

He said, “I thought it was a very complete performance. They make it very difficult for you and you know you have to defend your box well, be very strong on first and second boxes. I wanted that to be one focus and the other focus to be how we keep developing on the ball.

“That’s what really pleased me today – some of the passing and movement in the team from minute one until the end of the game was very good and it feels like a nice step forward.”

“There was certainly balance there today and we worked on that. Even though we can’t work so much physically at the moment, we talked about it a lot yesterday and on the training ground.

“That’s part of the process when we’ve brought in new players. When you’re keeping clean sheets and scoring goals, you’re going in the right direction.”

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard delighted with Ziyech’s performance against Burnley

Hakim Ziyech scored on his Premier League debut for Chelsea Football Club.

The Moroccan international has now scored in each of his two starts for Chelsea after recovering from an early-season injury.

He scored the opener against Burnley and also scored in the midweek Champions League win against Krasnodar.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is thoroughly impressed with the 27-year old’s performance in his first two games for the Blues.

Asked about Ziyech, Lampard said: ‘Yeah really impressed, really excited.

‘I knew the quality, but to see him first-hand at the training ground it was so frustrating that he got injured because I could see it.

‘But his personality, his work rate off the ball – which I think some people might expect a winger with his technical qualities to not have a work ethic for the team – he has that.

‘I think you saw that again today. And then that bit of quality, which is something that maybe is a different quality to what we had last year and what we had in the team. He brings something different.’

He continued: ‘I expected a lot of him, because I was very aware of his quality, that’s why we brought him to the club.

‘I think I’ve said it a bit now, but he brings a different quality to us with his eye for a pass, receiving, his crossing and everything, his assist-making.

‘But what I’ve seen since he’s been here as well is his absolute personality when he plays to want the ball. His work rate off the ball is very, very good as well.

‘And he’s brought those qualities and he’s come in with a real confidence. He’s definitely given us a big boost with his demeanour and the way he plays. Two games in a few days, with a trip to Russia in between, for him, after being out for so long, it’s been a really good start for him.’

Lampard insists there is no time for Chelsea to learn tactics

Lampard insists there is no time for Chelsea to learn tactics

Frank Lampard has been heavily backed and armed by Chelsea this season.

However, he has not had time with his new team to assemble them tactically and prepare them to play together with chemistry. Frank has tinkered a lot with his first team tactics and style of play and formations and intends to do more.

“It gave us different angles of pass and an idea that we could press higher up the pitch,” explained Lampard. “There were a lot of answers to things I had my own questions on and there were a lot of positives to it.

“We changed things around at times last year and it’s something that served us well, whether playing three at the back or 4-2-3-1. When you’re bringing new players into the club with versatility in their game, you’re also then trying to find the balance for the whole team and what brings out the best from all the players.

“I keep saying that normally you have a month or six weeks in America or the Far East to focus on these things but we’re doing that in real time so it’s maybe normal that we’ve had to find different solutions in different games.”

Lampard Believes Ziyech Can Fill Hazard’s Shoes

Lampard Believes Ziyech Can Fill Hazard's Shoes

Frank Lampard believes that Hakim Ziyech could be instrumental in filling the void left by Eden Hazard and Pedro.

Chelsea saw the exit of Eden Hazard in 2019, along with Pedro and Willian in 2020 – leaving a gap to be fulfilled. But Ziyech could be the solution to this problem.

Chelsea boss Lampard said: “We had Pedro last season and Willi was a huge player. The year before that we had Eden Hazard. Those sort of players don’t get replaced on a whim.

“With Hakim we had the potential to bring in someone with real different qualities to what we’ve had in recent years in terms of a left-footed, right-sided player, which was his main position position at Ajax.

“I know he also played in a No. 10 and he can definitely do that for us if we want to play a No10.

“But he does it in a way that he very much about opening up chances for others with his crossing ability and final pass.

“He’s not necessarily a winger who is going to fly past players all the time, albeit that is in his game. He can find a pass and sometimes last season I felt we lacked that when we were playing against low-block defences.

“We saw a bit of his quality and personality against Krasnodar. The idea of receiving the ball and turning, facing forward and finding that pass before teams are set, that is what I’m excited about to see from Hakim.”

Lampard Confims Thiago Silva’s Involvement In Burnley Clash

Lampard Confims Thiago Silva's Involvement In Burnley Clash

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has confirmed Thiago Silva’s involvement in the squad in the upcoming Burnley clash.

Chelsea will be facing Burnley on Saturday and Silva will be featuring in the team. Thiago Silva was not in the 4-0 Krasnodar win, which was on Tuesday.

“Thiago is fit,” Lampard told reporters. “Taking him out of the trip to Russia was more of a maintenance issue for him and I spoke to him about it.

“We’re just trying to make sure we get the best out of him over the course of a season and in this schedule where we have game after game after game, it made sense [for him not to be involved] in a game which involved a lot of travelling.

“If he had to play that game then of course he could have done but we have to put it in context of what we’ve got ahead of us. In the end it was a nice exercise with the fact we got a result and Toni Rudiger came into the team and played really well, which is the competition we need.”

‘With Thiago I decided and we decided, because I speak with Thiago a lot, with the game that we played at the weekend, the journey here [to Russia] and the travel back, we arrive very late back into London on Thursday morning and then we play three games over the next week, we made a choice to protect Thiago,” Lampard had said earlier.
