Chelsea are set to offer Emerson Palmeri new deal after impressive showings under Frank Lampard.

The 25-year-old moved to west London from Roma in an £18m deal last year, dropping in and out of the squad as Emerson battled for a place in the starting lineup alongside Marcos Alonso.

He only started 10 Premier League games all last season, but has now secured a regular starting place thanks to some eye-catching performances.

Italian Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nico Schira is now reporting that Palmieri is going to get a new deal in return for his good form, with the club happy to scrap his current contract that runs until 2022 and offer him improved terms.

The London club looks to tie Emerson down to a new five-year deal. As well as bonuses, Emerson will pocket €5 million a season in wages as part of the new agreement.

Earlier, Palmieri admitted to living his best period of life after impressing at Chelsea and providing an assist in Italy’s 3-1 win over Armenia. “I am happy with the assist as it helped the team, but I am above all pleased with an important win,” the left-back told Rai Sport.

“I think it is the best period of my career. I’m very happy at Chelsea, just as I was last season with Maurizio Sarri. Obviously, a player is always happier when he plays regularly.”
