Chelsea To Pay Around £100m Antonio Conte's Infamous Text To Diego Costa

The Daily Mirror has looked back on the one text that Antonio Conte had sent Diego Costa while both were still at Chelsea and how it has cost the club nearly £100m.

The Italian manager told Costa via text message that his Chelsea career was over and 6-months later the striker was sold off to Atletico Madrid. Diego Costa, now 30, helped the Blues to 2 Premier League titles and a Carabo Cup win during his 3 seasons at the Bridge.

He also racked in 58 goals and 24 assists in 120 games for the Blues to be hailed as one of the Blues’ best strikers while under the ownership of Roman Abrahimovich.

In order to replace the Spaniard, the South West London outfit shelled out £58m on Alvaro Morata and £18m for Olivier Giroud, both of whom have struggled to meet expectations since their arrival.

Now, Maurizio Sarri has managed to cut a deal for Gonzalo Higuain but Chelsea have to pay another £9m for the Argentine’s 6-month loan deal, not to mention the £150,000 he will be taking home every week.

To make matters worse, Eden Hazard did not take too well into being shifted into the number nine spot. While he has performed as asked of him, he is still tipped to make a switch to Real Madrid after this season with only one more season left in his current deal.
