Chelsea to open talks with Leicester City boss for Pochettino replacement

Chelsea’s hierarchy are aiming to make a final decision by the end of next week.

Chelsea are preparing to open talks with Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca as a potential replacement for Mauricio Pochettino this summer. The Blues have already parted ways with the Argentine.

The West London club surprised fans and decided to part ways with the 52-year-old. Chelsea secured sixth place in the Premier League and qualified for European football next season.

The new owners are looking at other options and it will be their third permanent managerial appointment since taking over the West London side.

Chelsea’s hierarchy are aiming to make a final decision by the end of next week. They are open talks with Enzo Maresca over summer move.

As per the reports of the Guardian, Chelsea will ask Leicester City for permission to open talks with Maresca in the next few days. Maresca has an £8.5m release clause in his contract and has a strong chance of landing the role.

The 44-year-old could be offered a longer contract than the two-year deal with an option. He moved to Leicester from Manchester City’s coaching staff and had previously managed Parma.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank and Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna are also on the wishlist. McKenna guided Ipswich to promotion to the Premier League after 22 years.

Frank has achieved success at Brentford since taking over from Dean Smith in the Championship six years ago.
