Transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chelsea will hold crucial meetings with Enzo Fernandez’s agent next week to determine the midfielder’s future, while definitively ruling out any possibility of a Real Madrid move.

The Argentine World Cup winner, currently on holiday after helping his country reach the 2026 World Cup final, faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge with the summer transfer window approaching its critical phase.
Romano reports that Fernandez’s representative, Javier Pastore, will travel to Europe from the United States, where he had been attending World Cup matches.
The agent will hold direct conversations with Chelsea officials and is also scheduled to meet with the player himself.
“The agent of the player is arriving in Europe,” Romano stated on his YouTube channel.
“There will be new meetings next week to discuss the future of Enzo Fernandez.”
The timing proves significant as August arrives, with clubs across Europe looking to finalise their squad compositions before the new season.
The Italian transfer specialist has emphatically dismissed suggestions that Real Madrid could resurrect their interest in the 25-year-old, despite long-standing links between the parties.
Real Madrid issued an official statement on July 3, categorically denying any pursuit of Fernandez.
The club declared they had “not made any efforts, either directly or indirectly, aimed at signing the aforementioned player” and had “no intention of pursuing such an operation.”
Romano reinforced this position, stating: “Forget about Real Madrid, and that remains my information.”
While Los Blancos have withdrawn from the race, Premier League champions Manchester City have reportedly entered the picture.
New City manager Enzo Maresca, who previously worked with Fernandez at Chelsea, allegedly wants to reunite with the midfielder at the Etihad.
The situation remains fluid, with Romano indicating the coming days will prove decisive:
“It’s August, they need to decide. Real Madrid are no longer there, so we need to see how they will assess the situation.”
Chelsea paid a British record £106.8 million to sign Fernandez from Benfica in January 2023, and any potential departure would command a substantial fee as the club navigates their summer transfer plans.
