Chelsea to consider taking advantage of buyback clause to recall Tammy Abraham

Abraham is on Chelsea and Manchester United’s shortlist of targets heading into the summer window.

Journalist Simon Phillips has told GiveMeSport, Chelsea are set to consider taking advantage of a buyback clause which would see Tammy Abraham return to Stamford Bridge this summer.

The Blues broke the British transfer record when they forked out £106.8million to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica, but head coach Graham Potter will be handed another opportunity to boost his squad ahead of next season.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the West London club inserted a £71million buyback clause when they sold Abraham to Roma in 2021.

The transfer guru adds the option to seal the striker’s return to Chelsea can be exercised from July 2023, having headed to the Serie A giants in a deal worth £34million.

Respected journalist Pete O’Rourke recently told GiveMeSport that Abraham is on Chelsea and Manchester United’s shortlist of targets heading into the summer window.

Phillips told GiveMeSport: “As of now, I haven’t heard that Chelsea are planning to use the option to buy, even though I am sure it will be pondered at the very least.”

Abraham has seamlessly adjusted to life in Italian football as he has scored 34 goals and registered 10 assists in 84 Roma appearances.
