The Argentine star, a crucial figure at Stamford Bridge, shared his admiration for Spanish football, fueling rumours that Los Blancos could be preparing a move.
Fernandez’s comments come shortly after Chelsea’s dramatic 2-1 win over Manchester United—a vital result that keeps their hopes of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League alive.
The Blues now face a decisive final league fixture against Nottingham Forest, with all eyes on securing a top-four finish.
Speaking to La Perla Londres, Fernandez reflected on his time in England and the transformation Chelsea have undergone since his arrival.
“When I arrived at Chelsea, everything fell into place. A lot of things changed within the club, and you can see the growth. That’s a very good thing,” he said.
“Since I arrived, the whole squad changed. We had finished fifth or sixth, and I was one of the oldest alongside Reece James.”
The 23-year-old also praised head coach Enzo Maresca, who handed him the captain’s armband this season.
“I’m grateful to Maresca, who trusted me from day one. Giving me the captain’s armband is a huge honour at a big club like Chelsea,” Fernandez added.
While he didn’t directly address the Real Madrid rumours, his admiration for La Liga didn’t go unnoticed.
“The Premier League is more transitional, and La Liga is more tactical and intelligent. I really like the Spanish league,” he admitted, a statement that will only intensify speculation linking him with a move to Spain.
Chelsea sources, however, have played down the transfer talk. The club is reportedly determined to fend off any interest from Madrid and see Fernandez continue as a key part of their long-term project.
With the season reaching its climax, Fernandez remains focused on the pitch—but his comments have certainly left fans wondering what the future holds.
