Chelsea’s backroom staff shocked by Maurizio Sarri’s treatment of Gary Cahill
Maurizio Sarri’s treatment of Gary Cahill has many long-serving staffs of Chelsea in shock, reports Metro.
The Italian has used the Englishman in very few games. His only Premier League appearance came against West Ham back in October.
As a matter of fact, Cahill was a regular under the previous regime of Antonio Conte and even won the league in 2016/17.
The centre-back expected to get a recall after Chelsea were smashed 6-0 by Manchester City last Sunday. But he was stunned once he gets to know that the manager has left him out the team that faced Malmo on Thursday.
The Englishman did play in the group stages of the Europa League and was left bemused to see his name not in the teamsheet.
Sarri did not even explained the omission and did not inform the player.
Cahill is still the club captain but the manager has barely spoken to him since his arrival, leaving the player with a feeling of ghost in training sessions.
The centre-back is out of contract at the end of this season and was told to leave in the January window, but he rejected to move away from Stamford Bridge in favour of neighbours Fulham.
Chelsea now have a FA Cup fifth round tie against Manchester United tomorrow night, before a Carabao Cup final against Manchester City next Sunday. As per the evidence, we don’t expect Cahill to play in either of these games.
