Chelsea showing impressive resilience amidst uncertain future

According to reports, Chelsea is hoping to sign Genk goalkeeper Mike Penders. Since taking over in May 2020, co-owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital have consistently pursued the acquisition of fresh talent. Some have been signed with an eye toward the future, while others have been bought with the goal of giving them regular minutes in the starting lineup.

Gabriel Slonina, who was signed from Chicago Fire at the age of 18 and who had already made a name for himself in MLS, appears to be an example of that. Now that a year has passed at Eupen, another loan is expected; therefore, it’s unclear if the US international will ever make it into the starting lineup at Stamford Bridge.

The West Londoners are reportedly paying closer attention to action in Belgium, with a teenager from that country said to be on their radar.

Chelsea in concrete talks to seal signing

Bob Faesen, a writer covering soccer, claims that Chelsea has begun showing interest in teenage goalkeeper Penders. According to Faesen, talks are taking place between Chelsea and himself in hopes of reaching a contract that would be close to $1 million (£780,000).

Penders might be able to finish the season on loan at Genk, provided the parties involved could come to an agreement. The Under-19 international for Belgium earned his debut over the weekend, playing a goalless draw with Standard Liege while maintaining a clean sheet.

Genk may now argue that Penders’ valuation has significantly increased, given that they have a contract until 2028.
