Chelsea legend Frank Sinclair has advised the club to pursue Aston Villa’s rising star Morgan Rogers and reconsider the permanent signing of Jadon Sancho from Manchester United.
Chelsea Urged to Sign Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers and Reconsider Jadon Sancho’s Future
Sancho, 25, joined Chelsea on loan for the 2024–25 season, with an obligation to buy for £25 million if the club finished above 15th in the Premier League—a condition they comfortably met.
However, the Blues can opt out by paying a £5 million penalty to United.
During his loan spell, Sancho made 41 appearances, scoring five goals and providing four assists.
Notably, he played a pivotal role in Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League triumph, scoring in the final against Real Betis.
Despite these contributions, Sinclair expressed concerns about Sancho’s consistency, stating,
“He has the quality, he has plenty of experience, but I am not sure he has the all-around game for Chelsea to get to the next level and win the Premier League.”
Sinclair believes that the funds earmarked for Sancho could be better utilized elsewhere, specifically highlighting Morgan Rogers as a potential acquisition.
The 22-year-old winger had a breakout season with Aston Villa, earning the club’s Young Player of the Season award.
His performances, including a Champions League hat-trick against Celtic, have attracted interest from top clubs.
Financial considerations also play a role in Chelsea’s decision-making. Sancho’s current £350,000-a-week wage at United poses a challenge, as Chelsea aims to maintain a balanced wage structure.
Negotiations are ongoing to reach a mutually agreeable salary should the club proceed with the permanent transfer.
As Chelsea prepares for the upcoming season, the club is also finalizing a £30 million deal for striker Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, aiming to bolster their attacking options.
With Champions League football secured, Chelsea faces crucial decisions to strengthen the squad and mount a serious Premier League title challenge.
Whether to invest in Sancho’s permanent transfer or redirect funds towards emerging talents like Rogers remains a pivotal choice for the club’s future.
