Chelsea’s owners, BlueCo, have created a shortlist of three candidates, and they will approach Xabi Alonso to be their next permanent manager. After just 106 days in charge, Liam Rosenior was fired. Enzo Maresca had departed the team in January by mutual consent.
Calum McFarlane, who was appointed interim manager for the second time this season and led the Blues into the FA Cup final following Sunday’s victory over Leeds, has promised to take their time during a “period of self-reflection” before selecting their future manager.
Following Rosenior’s dismissal, it became apparent that Andoni Iraola is a “leading candidate” to take over at Stamford Bridge. Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the Spaniard, who will be a free agent at the end of the season after choosing to end his time at Bournemouth, is “keen” on Chelsea. Romano stated, “Iraola would be more than happy to continue in the Premier League.”
Chelsea ready to make contact with Xabi Alonso’s agents
Chelsea may also need to change their model if they wish to sign someone like Alonso. The Spaniard will undoubtedly desire greater control over issues than the club’s prior managers are said to have had.
Nevertheless, prior to his dismissal, Rosenior was rumoured to have been engaged in the club’s summer transfer preparations. Maybe that modification was already underway. We’ll soon find out.
Alonso may be just what Chelsea needs right now. He has shown at Bayer Leverkusen that, given enough time to put his ideas into practice, he can win with a youthful squad.
Naturally, some unexpected names could also appear between now and the season. According to the source, Chelsea is reportedly investigating other, as of yet unidentified, options. Xabi Alonso, who was fired by Real Madrid after just 34 games in charge of the La Liga powerhouses, is already available.
