Chelsea set asking price for Trevoh Chalobah ahead of transfer window

Chelsea have decided on a £25 million asking price for defender Trevoh Chalobah, as they look to navigate financial challenges and meet the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability regulations by June 30.

Chalobah’s future at Stamford Bridge seemed uncertain last summer when the arrivals of Axel Disasi and the return of Levi Colwill from loan pushed him down the pecking order.

Despite interest from Bayern Munich and Nottingham Forest, Chalobah stayed put but faced a prolonged spell on the sidelines due to injury.

Since returning in February, Chalobah has proven his worth, stepping up when Chelsea’s defensive ranks were depleted by injuries.

He made 13 starts and four substitute appearances, with the only defeat in those matches coming against Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals.

Chalobah’s versatility allowed him to excel at both center-back and right-back, earning praise under Mauricio Pochettino.

However, Chelsea’s financial situation demands tough decisions. Co-owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital view selling a homegrown player like Chalobah as a viable solution to ease the financial pressures.

The Blues face a delicate balancing act. They have five central defenders, Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, and Chalobah, but injuries have often disrupted squad stability.

Chalobah’s ability to cover multiple defensive positions makes him invaluable, especially with the ongoing fitness issues of Reece James and Malo Gusto.

Chelsea must also be cautious about depleting their homegrown talent pool. Retaining Chalobah, along with Colwill and Conor Gallagher, should be a priority.

The club might consider the sales of Ian Maatsen and Armando Broja instead.

As the transfer window approaches, Chelsea fans will be watching closely to see if Chalobah remains a part of their future plans or becomes a necessary sacrifice for the club’s financial health.
