According to journalist Ekrem Konur (h/t Express), Chelsea sent scouts to Qatar to have a closer look at Nahuel Molina. The Argentine fullback has impressed many people in the tournament.

Molina scored in the quarter-final of the World Cup against the Netherlands, is currently plying his trade for Atletico Madrid.

The 24-year-old is a versatile fullback who can operate both as a right and left-back and can play as a wing-back. He was instrumental in Argentina’s victory over Netherlands.

If Chelsea are interested in signing him in January, there might be an issue as Molina joined Atletico Madrid in the preceding summer itself from Udinese. His current contract at the Wanda Metropolitano runs until the summer of 2027.

The Blues are looking to add a player to their right-back/wing-back department as they are worried by the number of injuries Reece James has picked up in the last 12 months. For that reason, they are in the race to sign Dutch wing-back Denzel Dumfries as well.

Molina, on the other hand, is an excellent player who has grown in stature in the last year or so. He played 18 times in all competitions for Atleti in the first half of this season, assisting two goals.

If the Blues are looking at a player similar to James in profile, Molina is an option for sure. Now, it remains to be seen when they will make a move for him.
