Chelsea secure £5 Million signing of Barcelona’s Marc Guiu
Chelsea have successfully completed the signing of Barcelona’s promising forward, Marc Guiu, for a reported fee of £5 million. The 18-year-old, known for his historic debut goal for Barcelona last season, has agreed to a six-year contract with the West London club.
Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s new manager, prioritized Guiu’s acquisition amid interest from Bayern Munich. The Blues swiftly activated Guiu’s release clause of €6 million (£5 million) to initiate talks, and the negotiations culminated in Guiu passing his medical at Stamford Bridge.
Guiu, a product of Barcelona’s prestigious La Masia academy, caught the football world’s attention when he scored on his senior debut against Athletic Bilbao. Coming off the bench in the 79th minute, he needed just 33 seconds to find the net with his second touch, securing a dramatic 1-0 victory for Barcelona.
At 17 years and 291 days, Guiu set a record as the youngest player to score on his LaLiga debut for Barcelona this century.
Last season, Guiu made eight appearances across all competitions for Barcelona, including a memorable goal in the Champions League group stage against Royal Antwerp. His performances showcased his potential, making him a coveted talent in European football.
With his signing, Chelsea aims to bolster their attacking options and inject youthful energy into their squad. Guiu’s arrival marks the second addition under Maresca’s tenure, following the acquisition of Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer from Fulham.
As the young Spaniard prepares to embark on his journey with Chelsea, fans eagerly anticipate seeing his talent flourish in the Premier League.
Guiu’s move to Stamford Bridge represents both a promising investment for Chelsea’s future and an exciting new chapter in his burgeoning career.
