Chelsea Rival West Ham's Offer For £102m Rated Gedson Fernandes

Chelsea have reportedly placed a bid for Benfica wonderkid, Gedson Fernandes.

According to the latest reports, the 20-year-old has a staggering release clause of about £102m.

Benfica are aware that they won’t receive a fee anywhere close to that amount. Joao Felix’s struggles at Atletico Madrid seems to have dropped potential buyers for Fernandes as well. The Blues however, are prepared to pay £55m for the attacking-midfielder after an 18-month loan spell if he plays 50% of the games during that period.

This offer obviously trumps West Ham United’s £33m-bid after an initial loan spell. Currently, both London clubs are in talks with the Portuguese outfit and so are a lot of other clubs as well. Manchester United are thought to be interested with Ole Solskjaer keen on improving his midfield ranks.

AC Milan Olympique Lyon had their bids rejected since the player only wants a Premier League move. This has allowed Chelsea to take up the prime position in the race. Frank Lampard is eager to address some of the weak points of this Blues side this January.

One of that would be the midfield with Ruben Loftus-Cheek currently on lengthy spell on the sidelines. Ross Barkley has also fallen out of favour post his injury and disciplinary issues. Given how midfield dominant, Lampard’s playing style is, it would be perfect to bring in another versatile starlet who will be able to feature in any of the central three spots.
